damien.deakes Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 How do you share it out so other users can use the web front end ? Obviously its located at localhost/helpdesk at my machine.... but i need to find out how to give others access to it. Hope you guys can help.
ICT_GUY Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 All i do is have a shortcut on the desktop pointing at http://ict-tech/login I have changed the icon to something that makes sense to teachers and they happily ignore the system completely. They come to me, I create the ticket
EduTech Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 We have an active desktop with school logo and links down the right hand side for - Webmail - Intranet - Helpdesk - VLE works and does the job James.

Ayaz Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Can I just add to this, how do you guys identify which person sent which ticket? When you give them the link for the helpdesk, do they login with their exchange email and password or what? Or do you have to give everyone a new username just for spiceworks, which would be a nightmare.
EduTech Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 Ours is implemented into AD so they login using there Username and Password which logs them onto to the network Pretty handy.. James
muppet Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 We have it set up so that they login with their school email addresses. This enables us to send ticket updates direct to them via email, but more importantly it encourages staff to actually use the email system.....but we still get people coming in to the office to report problems!!
BaccyNet Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Ours is set as a link from our Intranet. We have a custom page that identifies what their AD username is, then looksup their school email address in a CSV file, which is then passed to the helpdesk page thus logging them in. As far as our staff are concerned they never need to login to use the helpdesk and they get nice emails telling them the status of the request. Granted not many use it but then the ones that do are the ones we thought would have the most problems with it! If anyones interested in the redirection page, I'll happily post it up. Be warned though its not the neatest piece of coding in the world:D
bizzel Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Is it just me or is Spiceworks very slow? I thought it was because I was hosting it on my workstation but even on a server it's very sluggish!
amfony Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 spiceworks (might be only 2.0 or < ) runs like ass. It will run like rubbish on most anything really, i dont know why but its even on the spiceworks website that it will run poorly with over ... 300 i think nodes in its inventory. Great software but just simply runs like ass unfortunatley.
BaccyNet Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Our spiceworks was slow until we turned off the scanning. Then again since it updated itself to 3.0 its also sped up considerably.
gaz350 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 while scanning spiceworks is slowish although version 3 is lots better.
sparkeh Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Shortucut on desktop to helpdesk, teachers use school email address. I have found that running SW as a service rather than program helps, oh and its seems to like Firefox better.
