Primary School Coding Club, ahhh!

Hello!

 

I have been asked to run a KS2 Coding club (starting tomorrow, nothing like short notice eh!) and I'm looking for suggestions and recommendations on what free websites are out there to use?

 

I'm hoping to identify a group of children to become 'digital leaders' to pass on IT skills to younger children and run this club as a curated group, rather than a baby sitting service

 

So far we only use Code.org, which is awesome! and free iPad apps such as SpriteBox, ALEX, DaisyTheDinosaur, BeeBot/BlueBot/etc.

 

We are a chromebook (and ipad) school so websites with Google SSO would be fab.

 

Suggestions are very much appreciated,

Have a look at codeclub.org - not an immediate solution but maybe you can get assistance from a volunteer too.

https://replit.com/ exists and has SSO with Google, that's all I can tell you about it though as I have not used it that much and certainly not to teach KS2 children.

A lot of their content is based on Scratch Online.

 

We don't use it anymore as we have PurpleMash and their 2Code module is excellent - you could get a 14 day trial so you would have something to do with the club tonight whilst you research alternatives.

Scratch - Great software just be wary of the content that has been uploaded to the site. Unfortunately you do come across some unsuitable content.

 

code.org - great free resource, been a while since i've used it but always got kids interested due to the minecraft features.

https://www.thecodezone.co.uk have games and projects for school coding clubs - specifically the Game Jam as a free option, but also an option for the Game Dev Club too
