ITGURU Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Apologies if this has been asked before but what is everyone using to backup their 365 tenants and how do you find it? Have you ever had to restore mailboxes etc and how easy has it been. Looking at potential costs , Thanks
EduSWIT Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 We have one of these for our onsite backup solution. It backups up everything onsite and also everything in 365. Had to restore a SharePoint site which some completely messed up and it didn't take long and was super easy, 3 clicks. Synology offer licence-free apps for 365 so you only need to pay for the NAS and disks. https://www.synology.com/en-uk/products/RS2421+
Mr.Ben Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 We are using Barracuda - it's been great so far and backs up everything we need. Student backups are free, it's licensed on a staff head count. 1
andy_b Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/225144-synology-active-backup-vs-ransomware.html We went with synology active backup, working well so far - Synology RS1221 ~ £900 + HDD
ozydave Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Barracuda here as well. Restore whole mailbox and OneDrive to another user 2 weeks ago. Easy as!
snagrat Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 afi.ai here Pay per user but with one user license you can backup whole of SharePoint/Teams etc. you get a storage allowance per user license.
Edu-IT Posted April 16, 2022 Posted April 16, 2022 Barracuda here. As others have said, works a treat.
SDM01 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Can I ask, what sort of price you are paying for Barracuda Cloud - Cloud Backup?
EssentialRug Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Synology DS920+. Easy to set up, restoring is a breeze and extremely cost effective.
MartinT Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Barracuda 365 cloud backup. It's excellent and we have used it a few times to retrieve 'lost' files already.
dsmith8 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 We use CT Secure Cloud Backup for Office 365 & Teams | Central Technology (ct.co.uk) they are very good and use Veeam

MartinT Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 What sort of cost is this? Latest invoice in April cost just over £6k annual for 330 staff (students aren't counted).
SDM01 Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Latest invoice in April cost just over £6k annual for 330 staff (students aren't counted). That's quite a price tag, i am guessing this is for their full monty package. not just the cloud to cloud?

No - that's for the cloud-to-cloud package which is the only part we use. If you have fewer staff you can pretty much pro-rata it. We use CT to backup our VMs.
chris_uk Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 Barracuda here as well, restore speeds are really good, impressed with the product. Purchased through Phoenix Software Limited, signed up for three years and got a pretty sweet deal.
foofighterjim Posted May 17, 2022 Posted May 17, 2022 I hope I am correct in saying that the Barracuda cloud to cloud option has no fixed retention period, so you can keep your backups for as long as you want without incurring additional costs. Don't forget, the cost covers your Mailboxes, OneDrive, Teams (except chat) & Sharepoint storage. I say that is a pretty good price considering you have zero maintenance / energy costs as an ongoing concern.

MartinT Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 No, I don't believe there are any limits. If they do impose them sometime down the line, then fair enough as the incrementals will keep building up. Search and restore speeds are impressive.
KK20 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) QNAP here and their integrated backup. the actual backup was a real pain to setup initially BUT the restore is much quicker and easier. I used QNAP as we had a big NAS with lots of ironwolf drives - this was one of our onsite backup repositories so repurposing to a sharepoint/onedrive/mail backup wasnt too onerous. We dont backup teams at the moment so that is at the mercy of MS and staff are aware. Edited May 20, 2022 by KK20
