Block adverts on ipads

Is there a way to block ads on iPads a bit like on a PC where in the past I’ve always installed Adblock Plus?

 

What do you recommend.

Any reason you wouldn't use ADP on the iPad? Or was this more for mass work devices etc like DNS filtering?

i use adguard, runs a pseudo vpn not sure what the paid edition gives but i paid the token price to not have to deal with ads

 

nvm pro enables you to set custom dns servers, or use the built in options

As DGardiner mentioned, AdGuard is good. I have used it on multiple mobile devices and it works well. I purchased a lifetime license when it was on promo.

 

Another option for iPadOS are private browsers such as Firefox Focus, DuckDuckGo and Brave. All of these are free.

 

There's also Pi-Hole, but this would be much more complicated to set up.

It's mostly when watching youtube videos that it gets annoying.

 

On a PC I use AdblockPlus and that stops ads coming up in youtube videos.

IIRC none of those options are going to help with youtube ads.

Another plus for PiHole. I have 2 setup at home on different hardware for redundancy. Some of my devices like IoT and Smart Phones talk directly to the PiHoles whilst other devices such as servers talk to my other DNS Servers which use PiHole as an upstream DNS server.

 

I defo see the difference in lack of adverts when I do not use PiHole.

 

But yes YouTube is a bit different, PiHole won't block all adverts but it does block some, at the moment.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Safari and turn on Block Pop-ups and Fraudulent Website Warning. On your Mac, you can find these options in Safari > Preferences. The Websites tab includes options to block some or all pop-up windows, and you can turn on fraudulent site warnings in the Security tab

That won't stop ads popping up during youtube videos.

I also use PrivacyPro from Disconnect as a SmartVPN, handy as it allows me to specifically target trackers, cookies and fingerprinting.

 

I still have PiHole on my list of things to set up as well ... as with others, for IoT and other devices.
