HKP Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Hi, I am starting to plan work for moving all of our users (c. 4,000) from roaming profiles to UEV. We use the CC4 from RM Education and am going through their documentation. Interested to hear experiences from others, especially those that are also using CC4 which is a UK based company. Thanks
danielghares Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Personally, I'd ignore UEV (I believe it's no longer in active development) and use Fslogix profile containers instead. We've got it running for all our staff at the moment and it's fantastic, but very storage / network intensive.
jmcdermott Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 As far as I am aware UEV is dead in the water, Microsoft have stopped working on it and pulled all access the the online template gallery. There seems to be no replacement planned for non Azure domains. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. 1
atcoates Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 I've done it at a few of my sites and had only one minor issue with one user. I was expecting a flood of helpdesk calls but we had nothing. Worth testing for a few users first of course. 1
Mike8080 Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 I was hesitant moving to UEV on our CC4 network, but did it last year and didn't have any problems with it. Logins are quicker. Hardly any profile errors now, and if they do occur, it's just a case of deleting the hidden 'SettingsPackages' folder within a user's Document folder. Not had to make any changes to templates for other pieces of software. From what I remember, RM said any version of Windows 10 that they release would need UEV being in place on the network. Whether that will still apply due to what has been said above, I don't know!
Boredguy Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 We use UE-V for some minor settings on our Vanilla network, but it's nothing I would even think of looking at these days since Microsoft have moved away from it. Think we had some settings for Chrome and Edge, but as the settings are built into the latest GPO's even those are redundant and I need to think about removing them from the network 1

Isn't Enterprise Roaming Profiles the replacement? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-overview

Thanks for that, as its a managed network we have to go with the options supplied by RM Education. I've been wanting to move away from Roaming profiles for some time. We have some slow links between campuses so this can lead to slow logins when working away from your home server.

It does sound like once implemented it will drastically improve things. - - - Updated - - - Isn't Enterprise Roaming Profiles the replacement? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-overview As its a managed network.. our only option is to go to UEV..
Mike8080 Posted February 2, 2022 Posted February 2, 2022 Certainly seems faster, and the profile errors disappeared. We seemed to be forever resetting profiles, so user satisfaction has increased! 1

Did you rebuild them or upgrade existing 1809 PCs to 1909 via Windows Update? We are trying to get our machines on to 1909 via Windows Update and although the Windows 1909 update is installed, the PCs are not restarting to complete the process even when they are on 24/7 with no one signed in. Signing in to the PC, going to Windows Update and clicking 'Restart now' works but isn't practical with ~250 PCs.

Personally, I couldn't get the RM WSUS to update it successfully, so what we did was run the 20H2 installer on each PC. Long winded yes, but successful. Site of 700 PCs.

We usually do all workstations each summer and laptops when we can get our hands on them.
robyholmes Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Enterprise State Roaming as part of Azure AD and it works on local domain joined devices. You just need to have the Hybrid Azure Joined as well. https://blog.alschneiter.com/2017/02/07/step-by-step-configuring-enterprise-state-roaming-esr-with-azure-ad-connect-password-sync/
David44 Posted June 8, 2022 Posted June 8, 2022 Do any RM CC4 users see an issue where a UEV users profile path field is populated again in AD (and RMMC), possibly after a 'health check' in RMMC?
