vdao Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Hi all, We currently use Meraki MDM for our classrooms iPads, not sure if this is related. The issue is when recording videos or using the iMovie app a pop-up message appears 'iPad storage full - you do not have enough storage to record video' Having received this message, every iPad has approximately 15GB free storage. So not sure why this is happening any suggestions would be amazing. I have removed and reinstalled the app, used different accounts and i've had no luck. Many thanks
Koldov Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 (edited) Are you using shared iPads? http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/224532-ipads-storage-meraki-mdm.html http://www.edugeek.net/forums/netbooks-pda-phones/219670-shared-ipads-insufficient-storage.html Edited December 9, 2021 by Koldov
vdao Posted December 9, 2021 Author Posted December 9, 2021 Hi Koldov, Thank you for your reply Yes I believe we've setup the iPads as shared iPads. Any idea on how to allocate more storage per user on Meraki MDM? Many thanks Viet
Koldov Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Sorry I can't help with the specifics as we don't use our iPads this way (maybe someone with more knowledge will chip in). There should be enough info in the links I posted if you read through those threads.
Brimstone Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 The guides below should help you, if you need more space to allocated to a user you have to completely reconfigure the iPad. A caching server is CRTICAL for shared iPad to work successfully https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/deployment/dep6fa9dd532/web
vdao Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 Hi Brimstone, Thank you for the link you have sent me, it makes complete sense on why I am having this issue. However, I am struggling to find how to reconfigure the iPad to allocate each user more storage. Any ideas? Many thanks
Brimstone Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Hi Brimstone, Thank you for the link you have sent me, it makes complete sense on why I am having this issue. However, I am struggling to find how to reconfigure the iPad to allocate each user more storage. Any ideas? Many thanks Most of this depends on the MDM's you would be using, but in general you have to reset the iPad and set it up again from scratch allocating the number of users to each iPad, some MDM's like Jamf let you select the users you have in the MDM to override this setting but it appears Meraki may not have this feature. The more users you allocated the less space wach user gets. My guidelines would be; Use iPads with a minimum of 128GB storage, 32GB will get full very quickly as each user only gets 1GB of storage If apps are being used for media editing or other high volume tasks keep to total number of users low. Get a caching server, each user with a Managed Apple ID gets 200GB of free cloud storage and this gets cached once a non assgined user signs into the iPad.
dibekem Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Hello. Thanks for all the replies. I work with Viet who posted this originally. I can't seem to find how to reset these Shared iPads. Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance!
dibekem Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Just to add that we don't necessary need the iPads to be in Shared iPad mode. We just want to control them centrally and lock down some features like passcode change etc. Also we would like to centrally installing apps.

Any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance! The only 2 ways to reset a shared iPad are; Issue a wipe command from the MDM you are using to manage them, or DFU the iPad using Apple Configurator on a Mac or iTunes 1

Your Meraki MDM linked to Apple School Manager will be able to do this...? 1
dibekem Posted January 12, 2022 Posted January 12, 2022 Thanks for your reply. I will give it try next week when I'm in that school again. Unfortunately we don't have a mac so I think we can't use apple configurator. We did try the wipe command from the meraki MDM but nothing happened. I can't remember exactly now but when I opened the Meraki app on the shared ipad it reported some connection issues. Will try again next week.

Download and open iTunes, plug in a lightning cable, hold the power and home button down together until it reboots. Continue holding Home until you see a connect to iTunes message. Then iTunes will take you through the reset. 2

You don’t need a Mac, iTunes for Windows will let you do this. Process works slightly differently for iPads without a home button, but principle is that same. 1
dibekem Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Hello. Thank you for the rest procedure. It worked! 1
