But on a serious note, does anyone know of a similar resource I could point him to (and save him crawling the internet and clicking on random things)...? 2

Is there a specific part of the site that uses Flash or am I missing something? Im using Microsoft Edge and definitely dont have flash installed and the site seems to open just fine.

A struggle we all know only too well I guess... "I bought this CD-ROM of Encyclopedia Britannica in 1985 can you make it work"...
StevieM Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 (edited) Flash????? Aaaaaaarrrrgggghhh!! (Sorry, someone had to do it!) Didn't realise that site relied so heavily on Flash. It's one that our Year 3 classes have used, in the past, so I'll expect similar requests. EDIT: That site is so out of date it needs it's own museum. Yes, if you choose a sub-heading on the left (Acropolis) and then the next sub-heading (Story) you are presented with this...

DaveJ2717uk Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 Had the same issue, not with that site but a teacher using some ancient boardworks powerpoints and wondering why the embedded flash parts wouldn't work....... Explained politely as to why it wouldn't work.

Thing is I don't think Ancient Greece has changed much either... there are many resources (especially the fundamentals of things like History, Science, Maths) where the actual content will never need to change only the format in which it is produced/displayed, so I kind of do understand teachers relying on tried and trusted resources... I know we should all be flying through the Acropolis with VR headsets by now, but we are not there yet by a long shot... What kind of response do you think we would get if someone emailed the 'technical support contact'? Probably a "This mailboxis no longer monitored". We should all send a message today though. I've suggested to the teacher that he might like to try and start a dialogue with them and point out how useless the resource is in the modern day world of the Internet.... Whois says the domain was registered in 2004, so I imagine the site was created then and left 'as is' ever since....

Stuff like Ruffle is interesting and if it can used in professional environments instead of just to play flash games that'd be very useful.
