Simcfc73 Posted November 16, 2021 Posted November 16, 2021 The nuclear bunker edition is now available on VLSC. We should not be using remember.
Gongalong Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 I was just about to post re. this. This version is being supported to 13th Jan 2032, is that right? At least that's what Wikipedia seems to suggest, but they don't refer to it as 2021 there https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_version_history
Norphy Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 (edited) I was just about to post re. this. This version is being supported to 13th Jan 2032, is that right? At least that's what Wikipedia seems to suggest, but they don't refer to it as 2021 there https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_10_version_history Wikipedia is wrong: https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2021/11/16/how-to-get-the-windows-10-november-2021-update/ That post from Microsoft says that 21H2 LTSC is being supported for five years. The IoT version is getting ten years. Today also marks the availability of Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, which provides customers with access to an option for their special-purpose devices and environments, such as manufacturing or healthcare systems, or other uses which require longer term device update stability. This new client LTSC edition is supported for five years (Note: the new Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 edition is also available today and has a 10-year support lifecycle). Interestingly, the blog post also says that future Windows 10 releases are going onto a yearly release cadence, like Windows 11. They will just be getting H2 releases from now on. /edit just looked at the Wikipedia article and the table you're referencing. It's badly labelled. There's a footnote which clarifies that the mainstream LTSC version is getting five years and the IoT version is getting ten. Edited November 17, 2021 by Norphy
tdh1987 Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 Thanks for the heads up. Are you able to see a MAK listed on your VLSC? I've got this message:
Simcfc73 Posted November 17, 2021 Author Posted November 17, 2021 In Place upgrade went perfectly, I've only done it to get Adobe working
Gongalong Posted November 17, 2021 Posted November 17, 2021 That post from Microsoft says that 21H2 LTSC is being supported for five years. The IoT version is getting ten years. Microsoft also seem to be saying to 2032, for both Enterprise and IoT Enterprise https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/release-health/release-information
Simcfc73 Posted November 17, 2021 Author Posted November 17, 2021 Got a MAK key by calling them, I'm sure I've just been too eager to get it and its not online yet. Adobe installed perfectly so all good.
Simcfc73 Posted November 18, 2021 Author Posted November 18, 2021 Spoke too soon... it aint right at all.
Michael Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 ##Rushes to take a snapshot and post on Edugeek## Unfortunately I think this is a typo, as everywhere else on Microsoft states 5 years. It should be 10 years, like its predecessors 1809 and 1607.
Gongalong Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 You'd think they would get it right on the release information page. Wikipedia is now showing 2027. Confusing!
Michael Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 Taken from here it is headed Enterprise and IoT Enterprise LTSB/LTSC editions The IoT version is 10 years, despite being exactly the same.
Gongalong Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 Yep. So why not both 10 years, and why not report them correctly? Sigh.
Michael Posted November 18, 2021 Posted November 18, 2021 And I can't see who in their right mind would deploy an OS which is going to expire before its predecessor? Microsoft would have been better (at the very least) to align that LTSC 1809 and LTSC 2021 expire at the same time, then start 5 year support cycles. It's incredible to think an organisation the size of Microsoft that no-one thought about this...
rob_coles Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Can LTSC 2019 be upgraded via WSUS to 2021?
tmoon-mint Posted November 22, 2021 Posted November 22, 2021 Can LTSC 2019 be upgraded via WSUS to 2021? No LTSC versions require either an in place upgrade or clean install. The regular Education version can be updated by WSUS. 1
Gongalong Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 ##Rushes to take a snapshot and post on Edugeek## Unfortunately I think this is a typo, as everywhere else on Microsoft states 5 years. It should be 10 years, like its predecessors 1809 and 1607. Microsoft updated their release information page to say that the 2032 date is for IoT only.
Michael Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 It gets more bizarre as Windows Server 2022 is supported until 14/10/2031 Windows 10 LTSC 21 is supported until 12/01/2027 & Windows 10 LTSC 21 IoT is supported until 13/01/2032 I wish someone from Microsoft would respond as to the rational thinking behind this?
Gongalong Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Seems crazy to me that they don't support the Office 365 apps on *any* LTSC build of Windows 10 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/announcements/office-365-system-requirements-updates
Michael Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 Seems crazy to me that they don't support the Office 365 apps on *any* LTSC build of Windows 10 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/announcements/office-365-system-requirements-updates There is some logic - LTSC is static - just security updates and likewise Office 2016/2019/2021 just security updates. O365 Apps are all dynamic on the other hand and update regularly. I think there's a market for both, but unfortunately I still prefer static versions.
Gongalong Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 I've not tried to install 365 on LTSC, so I don't know whether it actually prevents it, or there's just that risk of instability (or do you not get security updates?).
Michael Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 It probably works, but Microsoft don't support it. I suspect these days, it'll probably be blocked though.
bknaggs Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 They stopped supporting 365 on Server 2012R2 in the last year or so and it is blocked installing there so I imagine it will be blocked from installing on 2021 LTSC.
Simcfc73 Posted November 24, 2021 Author Posted November 24, 2021 I tried to go whole hog and install office LTSC but Outlook wouldn't connect to O365 so I out 2019 back on. Done about 60 installs now.... it does seem really speedy but its probably just the new install feel.
Gongalong Posted November 25, 2021 Posted November 25, 2021 I installed 365 Current Channel on 1809 LTSC and it works. I contacted MS Support, just to check that I wasn't missing something, and their adamant that 365 is supported on LTSC. They even sent me the above link which says it's not, so I pointed this out to them, and they replied back again to say it was supported ♂️
