ICTDirect_Dave Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I shall be sing you tomorrow... You? Good choice! 1
Dos_Box Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 It's sooo very busy today, we've not had much time to ourselves. Nice to see as we were quite apprehensive about turnout this year, but it seems the sun has brought people out in their droves 1
Rob_D Posted March 24, 2022 Author Posted March 24, 2022 It's odd getting back from a BETT while it's still light. In fact it's odd going to BETT while it's not cold and drizzling. 2
NorrthDown2 Posted March 24, 2022 Posted March 24, 2022 I might seem a dinosaur, but I need one - are there any free mouse mats to be found? I'll be down tomorrow (Friday).
mdrabble Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Just on train to Euston can someone give me clue which tube route to take please. I’ve Googled it give me Canning Town and I know in the past people have said to avoid this one. Cheers

Cheers Morning, Take the Victoria line from Euston to Green Park, change there & jump onto the Jubilee line to Canning Town. Take the DLR to either Royal Victoria or Custom House (for ExCel Centre). Canning Town is a mandatory interchange (for this route), so unfortunately it's unavoidable! In terms of getting the DLR, you'll need the one that goes to Beckton not Woolwich. Head straight up the escalator and turn left to find the platform. Edited March 25, 2022 by Guest

Cheers The alternate route avoiding the bunfight on the platforms at Canning Town is: Euston to Embankment (Northern Line Charing Cross branch) Embankment to Tower Hill (Circle/District Line) Walk across the road and up the escalator into Tower Gateway DLR to Custom House (You will get a seat and don’t have to change!) This is what I would do Edited March 25, 2022 by elsiegee40

I had a chat with ICT Direct then moved on
Syman_a Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Canning town yesterday was not too bad when we arrived about 9:30.

Take the dlr up the tunnel from Bank and get off at shadwell / limehouse. Wait for a DLR to becton to show up. Get on and enjoy a seat until custom house.
Rob_D Posted March 25, 2022 Author Posted March 25, 2022 Are the emirates offering free travel for BETT ticket holders this year? (or was that always because January's their off-season).

Guest Guest Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Hope I don't get a slap on the wrist from the Mods for asking this... but just wondering if anyone is currently close to the ExCel Centre & having problems w/ phone calls & texts not working on the O2 network? As mentioned previously, I live on the same road as the ExCel centre but not able to dial out this morning. Just on the off chance anyone was about & able to see if it's just my phone or if there's a signal problem in the area?
Norphy Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 According to the O2 Service Checker website, there are no problems at the Excel centre https://status.o2.co.uk/
Guest Guest Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Just checked that site for myself via my Postcode (ending corresponds to my apartment block so too precise to post here!). Unless the ExCel centre has additional masts etc to cope w/ capacity, I think there may be an issue nearby. It'll be interesting to hear if anyone else has problems today.
john Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 Go from Euston to Euston square (short signposted walk out the right of the station basically) and get on the eastbound circle line to Tower hill and walk across road to tower gateway and all trains go to Beckton which is what you need simples! 1
garethEds Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Nice to meet people yesterday at the Edugeek stand. First time at BETTsince it moved from Olympia many moons ago. Nice seeing some faces I'd not seen for a long time. My son and I eventually made it back to South Wales by 9:30pm. Hell of a drive but enjoyed the day out. G 2
NorrthDown2 Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 Friday afternoon turned into the old Saturday afternoon. Some stalls were starting to clear at around 2pm. I've never seen halls so cleared by vendors before closure - and I've still been wandering round at 3.15 on a Saturday afternoon and not seen as many stalls packed up and gone. The weather may have played a part - who wants to be in a hall when there's a beautiful day out there but I wonder how happy vendors were at footfall on the Friday. I got the impression folks were happy with the numbers they saw Wednesday and Thursday, but Friday definitely did not have the numbers a usual Friday would have (though these are not usual times I suppose). Vendors will probably want to swing (a punch) for me, but is there merit in staying open slightly later on the Friday and keeping people & vendors there. If the aim of taking Saturday off the table was because attendance was so low (and cost of hire of the hall for another day presumably high), where does it stop with vendors packing early presumably to avoid traffic. Don't get me wrong, I spent the day there on Friday and I enjoyed it but BETT organisers need to decide if they're happy taking a hit on Friday afternoons with footfall because vendors have packed up and gone - I always thought attendance used to peak on a Friday?

There was a late opening on Thursday and it was empty then too. People went on Saturday because they couldn't get there during the week, a late opening only allows a small number of people in the local area to attend, and most people aren't going to travel just to visit for an hour or two in the evening!
DrCheese Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 Yeah the lack of a Saturday opening was a pain. I quite like being able to take the entire team on the same day, without having to worry about any issues going on at work in the meantime. Plus we'd go for a beer afterwards without feeling guilty or wanting to rush back because of work the next day. The late opening as you say, was pointless. 1

Which was exactly the point many of us were trying to argue that night outside the Fox two years gone.

paulkerton Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 I travelled from Oxfordshire (which some consider a home county - I don't) and even leaving this house at 9am outside of rush hour and off-peak it still took till 11:30am to get to Excel. The biggest problem for anyone who isn't from East London is where it is. Its a lovely large venue, but its so so hard to get to. You hope the Elizabeth Line will alleviate that issue, but we were hoping that for BETT 2018 and its not likely to be fully operational from Reading to Abbey Wood till BETT 2024! The 8pm finish Thursday and no Saturday makes it even more difficult for people outside the immediate area to go. They should've moved BETT to be at the NEC with The Education Show rather than move The Education Show to BETT, or alternate the show between the NEC and ExCeL a long time ago.
