coolhands Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Hi. We cannot update to the summer release 7.2 as SOLUS3 gives the above message. We've switched solus off & on again but still failed. Any ideas I can pass to my IT team while I wait for capita to respond? I need it to do the census. Currently on spring release 7.198. I did notice it has 'Automatic' in services.msc and I saw an old post mentioning that (can / should it be set to 'run'?) but obviously we had no problems up till now so I assume that isn't the cause.
Boredguy Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Have you made sure that the Solus 3 has been updated to the required version first before deploying out 7.2? You should be on 3.12.59.5
neilenormal Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 that service should show as "running" You could try re-adding the SA authorisation on the database shown in SOLUS3 - even change it, save it then change it back to the correct one. Has worked for us in the past I would try to get SIMS upgraded before attempting to upgrade SOLUS3.
Rob_D Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 We had this a couple of updates back. As I recall, it was something to do with the SIMS backups/logfiles getting too big. I know the SIMS engineer compressed our backups and turned off verbose logging as part of the fix.

Problem with this is if we do any suggestions (like right now) we can't 'try' it cos everyone will be getting an update during school day lol. Annoying. So will have to wait until after school again (have now in third day with this). With the above - who would generally do that I assume it would be the IT team (ie our IT people in the school?). We have capita service agreement and obviously they do literally nothing. (I posted a other thread recently about our huge backups folder. I delete some of the old ones, but they are not being managed / compressed by anyone. Who would I ask to do that?). Planning on moving to SchoolICT as our support company but that won't be until next April, and I understand they will do all this sort of stuff. Edited September 22, 2021 by coolhands

They could at least check if the server is critical on space. Depending on how comfortable they are with SQL, they might be able to make the backup/logging changes themselves. But TBH as a network manager, I wouldn't risk trying ourselves over calling our SIMS support people (But in our case they're pretty responsive).
Boredguy Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 Your school IT team should be the ones keeping an eye on server capacity etc, and dealing with your SIMS support company for technical issues the same as any other product you have. Certainly based on your previous post regarding backups then something has gone sideways and could be part of the upgrade issue. Within our trust, the SIMS servers and the good running of it falls within the IT Teams remit. Use of the different modules within SIMS is the responsibility of the Data Manager/Admin team, but the actual Server and client installation should be your IT Team unless it's specifically under the control of your SIMS support company 1
coolhands Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 Hi everyone our IT chap has not been able to set the 'SOLUS3 Agent Service' to 'Started' in the status column in services.msc - can anyone confirm if yours has 'Started' in that column all the time or not? If so why would ours keep switching it off. He said "I've tried restarting it but it simply stops again after a few seconds." From the capita help article (which was their response to my case) they put: It is also worthwhile checking that the Solus3 agent service on the Server is “Started”. If not go into Services.msc, scroll down to find the Solus3 agent, and check the status Column, if this is blank, right click on the line and select “Start” Here is the article capita sent me to: https://support.capitasoftware.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sys_kb_id=0efec6ff1b4fe010fe688551f54bcbce I feel completely stuck here as it's not being fixed
Rob_D Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 The SOLUS3 Agent Service shows as "Running" on our server (which is probably the same as started). 1
LeMarchand Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 The SOLUS3 Agent Service shows as "Running" on our server (which is probably the same as started). Same here. (Ignore the disabled, we don't use SIMS any more so I just started the agent to check). The Start button showing grey normally means the service is running (if it isn't disabled). otherwise it normally shows green. Not sure if it's the reproduction on my monitor, but in the pic in the first post it looks grey to me.
haci Posted September 22, 2021 Posted September 22, 2021 it should certainly be started/running as should the solus3 deployment service. however I don't belive this would prevent you from upgrading! Tollerance not met, is lack of disk space or a prerequiste is not installed or something installed is conflicting. 1
coolhands Posted September 22, 2021 Author Posted September 22, 2021 thanks. Had IT guy with me just now, he couldn't get the service to stay running no matter what he did. So given up now & I've submitted the log to capita on my case. So will hopefully see some answers!
