Escaping from Powerpoint with Viewsonic IFP attached causes monitor to go black!

Got some new Viewsonic screens in the summer x 4.

 

We've disabled the Android and they boot straight to HDMI 1 - PC connected to that!

 

If the user opens a PPTX then freezes the screen on the Viewsonic panel, then presses ESC key on the keyboard so they can work on their PC without the kids seeing, randomly the PC monitor will turn black and complain it's out of range!

 

Anyone seen anything similar at all?

 

Monitor is connected via VGA and Viewsonic via HDMI.

We've never been able to solve this, it started happening since we switched to HDMI a few years ago. We got around this by using Presenter View or extended desktop but it's difficult for some of our staff to grasp the concept of two screens. I think because of digital is either on or off, once you've come out of the PowerPoint it'll just kill the signal.

It might not be the same issue, but in the past, we have had issues with PowerPoint taking liberties with the display settings on devices.

 

We Enabled the GPO for Do not allow PowerPoint to automatically extend the display when presenting on a laptop or tablet under User Config in policy, and that seemed to do the trick.

Try using a v26 driver. I've not had much luck with the v27 drivers.

still having this problem with newline display screens on HDMI and monitor on VGA.

 

We have disabled presentation view on power point and the GPO listed above.

 

Unsure whats causing it , its 3 different models of PC's but all use Intel graphics ( different generations )

 

Our Pcs are set to duplicate and it causes the screens to go black ( windows changes the display settings to "Show on 1 " instead of duplicate)

We've now changed both displays so the resolution and refresh rates match.

 

Previously the panel was set as :

 

 

We're waiting to see if the issue re-occurs.

 

We've also put a cheap HDMI splitter in one room as that should also fix it!

Never noticed the "Active Signal Resolution" before. Interesting.

 

It seems a lot of people suggest the HDMI splitter option. Kind of annoying that is whats required

 

Did that "Active Resolution" only change after a HDMI splitter was added ?

No the active resolution was always there.

We've found that if you have a computer with 2 visual outputs connected, such as Monitor on VGA and an activepanel on HDMI/Displayport, and showing a power point presentation while the screens are in clone mode, that pressing ESC to exit the presentation ends up with the monitor input being disabled and only the activepanel showing.

 

To get round this we remind staff to use the right click option to End Show and not Escape, or if it does occur, to hold down the Windows Key and press P twice then enter so that it switches the graphics card back to Clone mode instead of second screen only

Had this exact same conversation this morning with the teacher who its happening to .

 

I have changed her over to a Splitter to see if the issue is still the same. Which i assume it wont be.

We've found here if you go full screen in PowerPoint before turning on the hdmi connected screen the signal is lost when exiting PowerPoint. If you go full screen in PowerPoint after the screen is turned on it's all fine.

Yep ! just tested this does exactly as described.

 

I assume the splitter bypasses this issue as its always active.

Using a splitter always resolves the issue as the PC is not trying to send the different signals to each device, but does mean that you only have the option of it being a "clone" of the screen. Some of our staff have taken to setting our ActivePanels as Extended desktop so they can just put some of the work up on the screen and carry on with SIMS etc on the monitor that students can't see.

 

It depends which works best for each situation.
