New Install on server 2019 - Home Page keeps refreshing

Hi Everyone.

I have just installed a new instance of HAP+ onto a new 2019 Server, but when I log into the site, the home screen just keeps refreshing. Has anyone else had this, or can anyone shed some light on this.

If I change the URL to HAP/MyFiles or Hap/Bookings then the pages display correctly, but not the homepage.

Also, I am having a problem with drive mappings. The mappings all work in a file-explorer window, but not in the browser. I am a complete novice when it comes to server 2019 having just updated from 2008 boxes, so there are many holes in my understanding of new things (like DFS Namespace).

Talking of holes, you may find that HAP+ is full of them as it hasn't been actively developed for a long time. I may be fine. However, with it sitting out on the internet, can you take that chance?

With the absence of adequate funding to buy a proper solution, we have little choice...

Although if I can't get it working then it could all be academic anyway.

It depends what you need from HAP+. If it’s remote access, you may be able to set up an RD Web gateway with an Azure app proxy to give you better security.

If it’s the file access that you really need, you can give it a try but you really need to be going through the code to see how you can strengthen any security (or bug check). Azure for logons?

Cost can’t be the main motivator with this one - you’ll be thrown under a bus if you get compromised through an unsupported publicly hosted piece of software (the software is good, but without support it’s down to you).

We use a similar solution, but:

1) I constantly bug check, strengthen and test it

2) I’m ready to fall on my sword if it’s compromised

Cost is unfortunately a major factor when the budget is literally ZERO, and I have yet to see another free system which can allow our users to access their user-area via the internet, especially as all of our systems are on-premise

What I'd really like to do is give them Citrix or similar, but we just have no money.

I sympathise but that's still no reason to introduce something that is going to open up security issues and isn't developed any more and hasn't been for some time.

I'd be avoiding it.

Whilst I am happy that people are so concerned, the SLT want it, it is what we have and we will be using it.

I would much rather have some help with resolving the technical issue that I am having with HAP+ rather than just telling me not to use it.

Any way. I have managed to resolve the first part of the problem, with the home page refreshing. I now just need to know why drives are not mapping.

With respect, people are telling you it's a bad idea because it is.

If you *have* to press ahead you need to document your concerns to SLT and get an acknowledgement from them to cover yourself.

I can't speak for others but I wouldn't be helping another school implement something risky.
