Did anyone think of this during the second ep?

I'm sure there was also a similar scene in something else. Shanana?

Yep. Bit hard not to...

Any idea when S2 airs?

I think it was deliberate. The First book has a lot in common with Lord of the Rings and the Taren Ferry crossing was Jordan's take on that.

Season two is nearly finished filming. Lots of new cast announced, though few have had their characters revealed.

We've got Elayne Trakand comfirmed and I'm reasonably confident I know who's playing Verin, Elaida and Lanfear.

I'd say it'll be released at a similar point to this year. Amazon's lord of the rings series releases on the 2nd september. It's 8 episodes long, so assuming they do their usual release three episodes then go weekly that'll take us into october. They'll want to leave it a month to let the hype/critics calm down and give them time to ramp up the WoT season 2 marketing campaign. Which takes us to November again.

Much as I'd like it to come out earlier, I'm all for them taking time to polish things up more.

Didn't the show runners say they tried to add more of the feel of the later books into the series to add the additional layers which not in first ones. Not read the books but did watch the series

Yeah, the Wheel of time doesn't really become the sprawling political fantasy epic it's known as being until the middle of the third book.

They've brought a lot of the polticking forwards into the first series whilst keeping key parts from the first book.

Shame was that I found the whole White Tower and novide/accapted bits very good - I enjoyed them and the bits after

but they - for obvious reasons - had to skip all that

but that was where the characters were built up as well as a lot of the canon and concepts

still - looking forward to the next season

now looking for a way of watching the Legend of the Seeker for free

bet they didn;t do the bits with Denna properly!!!!

She's only in 4 eps, if that's any guide. Not read the books and years since I saw the show and I can't remember that character. Mind you my main memories are that the star looked like a bulked out version of someone I used to know and that Bridget Regan looked lovely, as did Tabrett Bethel. I have vague memories of a problem being solved by a statue of Richard. Oh, how could I forget the, err, unusual shape of the weapon the ladies in red leather used.

You could read the books - Wizard's First Rule - but be prepared because I think the author has some 'problems' and the scenes are rather extreme

quite well written but

WOW

rather dodgy

They haven't skipped over that so far. We never see Tar Valon in book one and both Egwene and Nynaeve don't become novices/accepted until book two.

They've cast Elayne for S2 so its reasonable to assume that they'll enrol in the White Tower early in the second series in much the same way as the books.

Just watched E6, and the show seems to have found its stride since they got to The White Tower (though the youngsters' acting is still... variable). It did seem to be the ideal place to end the season, though

Questions for those that have read the books:

  1. Was the portal the end of the first book?
  2. What's the change people are complaining about re the way magic works? I thought it was possibly some gender flipping amongst the five potentials, but comments above suggest not.
  3. Were men as oppressed as The False Dragon seemed to hint?
  4. Were the wardens "bodyguards with benefits" in the books?

Episode six isn't the end of the season, but it was as far as they filmed before covid shut production down again. Barney Harris doesn't come back after and as such the next two episodes were re-written to remove him.

1) The waygate was not the end of the book. They enter the ways in chapter 44 of 53. It also wasn't a big structure on a hill. Rather an old wall in a basement of a house in the city of Camelyn

2) People seem concerned that men can perhaps see the weaves made by women and vice versa. The show says this isn't so, but the way logain reacts to Nynaeve in episode 4 made people think otherwise. There's a concern that they're going too powerful too soon. Some of the stuff done by the Aes Sedai in the series is OP compared to their abilities in the books. The argument is that the Aes Sedai of the current era have only a fraction of the power and knowledge of the Age of Legends. Nynaeve is the only channeler alive with enough power to be considered strong 3000 years ago.

3) No. But in this scene Logain is really only trying to get those in the Hall of the Tower to kill him. Being stripped of the Power makes you want to die.

4) It was certainly hinted at with the Greens. Myrelle (aes sedai, green ajah - likely being merged with Alanna in the TV show) certainly did. Also Egwene and Elayne (coming in S2) both spend a lot of time daydreaming about bonding a Warder they could also marry.

Finished Season One tonight. Wasn't entirely sold at first, but ended up really enjoying the show. Hopefully the acting from the younger cast, especially the lads, will improve by next season though.

One of them won't - Barney Harris (plays Mat) has been replaced for Season 2 as he refused to comply with Amazon's vaccine mandate for working on their TV shows. Allegedly.

But share your sentiments on it being slow to begin with and picked up towards the end even if (apparently, I've not read them) it doesn't follow the books.

Yep, Donal Finn replacing barney. I think that'll work quite well.

They need to give Perrin somemore screen time as, though his character's personality was accurate to the books, they didn't give the actor enough time to actually show us.

In terms of pacing, the show is much quicker than the book. The Eye of the World is a famously slow starting novel. Personally, I'd have liked two more episodes in this series. One at the start so they could spend two episodes in and around Emonds Field and the Two Rivers in general. More time to learn about Two rivers culture and to get to know our core five characters would have been good.

I'd have liked another epiosde at the back end of the season. The Ways needed more time and attention. That was Loial's time to shine and there's a lot of good story that was truncated. They could've then used the extra fifteen or twenty minutes saved to add more to the final two episodes. I'd have liked to see more of Fain and learn a little more about Fal Dara before everything went nuts!
