Good morning Support,

Hope you are well.

I support a school that uses ActiveInspire on a daily basis, we have had terrible trouble so I downloaded the latest version, and from what I hear it made the issues even worse.

The software is closing randomly, crashing not saving work.

I'm using the latest version of Windows 10 and Java. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the software, deleting user accounts from computers, re-installing windows, checking drivers and I've tried opening files directly from the computer rather than a server share but nothing has worked for me.

I really need a fix asap.

Does anyone have any advice on what I should do next.

Regards,

Simon

Hi Simon,

A few questions so that we can understand the issue a little better:

1. Does ActivInspire crash if you try to create a new flipchart from scratch? Or is it only happening when amending old files?

2. If not on new flipcharts, are there specific flipcharts which seem to cause this issue?

3. If so, do they contain any Flash elements or content unlike that found in a working flipchart?

4. Does the crash occur only when interacting with the flipchart from an interactive display (ActivBoard, ActivPanel, SMARTboard, etc)? Does it happen if working from the PC?

Thanks

James

We have had this issue with 2.10 and also on machines that have had a clean install of 3.10 after full manual removal of 2.10 as per Promethean docs I've been provided.

As the firefighting continues does anyone have recommendations what is a "stable" version with Windows 10, Sophos Endpoints.

If it's anything like the Activedriver which got destroyed by successive windows feature updates to the point of not working at all on any PCs - it wouldn't surprise me if activeinspire is going the same route.

That being said we still have a few users with lots of activinspire docs and don't appear to have the terrible issues you are having so could it be something else other than the software?

Thanks for the feedback. That is my thinking too - but the "something else" if difficult to pin down as we have no major individual infrastructure changes that would impact this I can see especially as seeing across two sites with their own isolated servers / network bar the VPN links. The main variables I would speculatively look at is Antivirus (Sophos) where I have added the Promethean recommended websites from their network consideration techdoc or possible impact of a Windows Update / Windows 10 change post October 2023 but I would have thought there would be others out there and knowledge inside Promethean (whether acknowledged or not). We've been on a very old version for a long time before my time at the school. Another difficulty is replicating too between classes or getting machine access.
