SharePoint and OCR

Does SharePoint OCR documents? I've uploaded some scanned as PDF documents but without OCR software, so a picture in a PDF. I noticed that when I previewed the PDF in SharePoint it opens in a word preview and the lines are selectable and you can even copy and paste the words out again.

 

So does SharePoint OCR documents and make them searchable? or is this an anomaly of the word preview in SharePoint?

 

The PDF seems unchanged and I can't find an OCR'd version of it.

 

EDIT: Also using Bing work search I can't find the document but it was only uploaded 20 minutes ago.

Your scanner may create the PDF using its own OCR capability - I know our copiers can do this so it's transparent in action.

I wish, I looked at the output its just a picture of words in a pdf.
