chazzy2501 Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Staff returned ipad but had left the wrong pin code, she'd removed it from her icloud but as I can't use the ipad I'm stuck. how do I get the ipad working? it won't let me do anything including getting it on the web which would allow it to see that it's been disowned! ideas? the ipad says locked for 1 hour after power cycle as well which is annoying. The time and date are also wrong.
ThatBoringBloke Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 You can plug it into a PC and use iTunes to reset. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/itunes/itnsdb1fe305/windows 1
Norphy Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 If it's been signed out from iCloud, you should be able to turn it off, put it into DFU mode then do a restore from iTunes or Apple Configurator. If it's an iPad with a home button, do that by turning it off, holding down the home button and plugging it into a computer. 1
chazzy2501 Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 durrr, itunes. not sure what a dfu mode is though
Norphy Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 Device Firmware Upgrade mode. It's a state where you can restore a firmware to an Apple device without the thing being entirely booted up. https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/DFU_Mode 1
chazzy2501 Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 well it's in DFU, blooming took 5 attempts before black screen and windows usb noises. itunes is being a pain about downloading updates!
chazzy2501 Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 restored but stuck at activation.... its got the right time and is online but states that it is linked to an their apple id. She's sure she disowned it... shrug?
chazzy2501 Posted February 9, 2021 Author Posted February 9, 2021 Never mind, she really, really, did it this time and the pad started to work.... thbnaks
Bompalompalomp Posted February 9, 2021 Posted February 9, 2021 If this happens again, we contact Apple directly. In most cases I don't even attempt to get the staff to remember their passwords (lost cause!) or reset it prior to bringing it to me. I reset it until it's stuck on activation lock, then contact Apple with our Proof of Purchase and they reset it for me usually within a day or two. As long as you have a POP with the serial on it (may need to get this from your supplier if your records don't have it) and they'll do this for you. 1
