Evening all,

This one has stumped me and our team so hopefully someone on here will have an answer.

So we've suggested our staff use the live event function for large group interaction. KS3 are having to teach large groups due to staff shortages and numbers of KW students on site coupled with the fact we've had some low level abuse of the meeting functions because staff haven't setup their meetings correctly.

This has worked perfectly in all our testing and some staff were using it already, however just as we sent an all staff email to use the live event function it's gone missing. Literally the drop down option in Teams is missing.

I'm a bit confused about what licensing allows the live event feature, we've only got A1 and I've been reading that you need A3 or 5 but I've also seen some people on here say it still works on A1. We've even tried installing the 30 day preview for A3 to see if it gave the option but it was still missing. I've checked all the Teams policies and they look fine, I just want to know if it definitely works with A3 because if it doesn't SLT won't be happy if I spend money for nothing.

Cheers in advance

I think Microsoft gave it free to A1 for most of last year, didn't take it away when they said they would, and have now finally done that.

I can confirm live events is there on my A5 subscription, it was always stated to be an A3 and above feature, so i would assume it's there for A3 too. How long did you give it after signing up to the 30 day trial before checking if it was there? Office 365 can take a stupidly long time for things to actually appear correctly. I'd give it 24hrs and check again.

Cheers I'll give it until tomorrow then to double check.

I just want Teams to work properly for a couple of days, although most of our issues are user based so doubt that will happen.

(Updated) Extending the temporary limit increase for live events

Updated December 29, 2020: We have updated the post to reflect that these extensions will be in effect until June 30, 2021.

Note: This change does not apply to customers with A1 plans. Those plans will no longer have access to Live Events beginning January 1, 2021.

We are extending the temporary limit increase for live events in Teams, Stream and Yammer.

How this will affect your organization:

The temporary limit increases for Microsoft 365 live events hosted with Teams, Stream and Yammer will be extended until June 30, 2021 (previously January 1, 2021).

Limit increases for live events include:

• Event support for up to 20,000 attendees

• 50 events hosted simultaneously across a tenant

• Event duration of 16 hours per broadcast

After June 30, 2021, an Advanced Communications license will be required to host events for more than 10,000 attendees and durations longer than 4 hours.

What you need to do to prepare:

No action is required. If you would like to have permanent access to increased limits, an Advanced Communication license is required for event hosts.

I read that and assumed it wouldn't work but was just checking as the first like confused me a little, says they have extended it but second line says they have stopped it for A1 licensing so was sure what they had extended.

if you are running a meeting you can now stop people unmuting and prevent others from presenting. This should get most of what schools need it for. I found the live event feature way too complex to use.

They have extended the user limit for A3 and A5 licenced users, after June 30 you require an extra licence for more than 10,000 attendees.

Right that clears that up then! Off to get pricing for A3 assuming my test license actually works as currently still not deploying AGH!

Cheers all

So, Have they removed it from A1 now i'm guessing?

Yep at least from our tenant and a few others seem to be having the same problem, my A3 trial license user has just this second got the feature back, it took near on 24 hours of nail biting though!

Would be nice to have a notice email reminding that they was removing it from A1 (or was there one and i deleted it.... )

Same boat mate, I think there was a note on the admin panel when you log in but I must admit I never get chance to read them, once I'm in I'm getting pulled left and right currently. Sure we're all in the same boat though.

If it's any help if you are having the same issue I can confirm applying the A3 demo licenses works, it takes ages to apply but it does apply, that gives you 25 licenses and 30 days to beg for the money :)
