Just wondering about changing the "Who can bypass the lobby" setting in Teams for Students, currently they all go straight in to the meeting (default setting, but to allow teachers a bit more control of who they allow (and more to the point, can kick out) I was thinking of changing this so Teachers have to allow them in from the Lobby.

It will be another step for the teachers to do at the start of the lesson but I think they will be onboard when I mention that this will increase their control of who`s allowed in.

How does everyone else have this set?

Thanks

We have it so that Teachers have to change the lobby options from the meeting options so that they have to admit everyone into the meeting. I have not looked yet to see if we can set that as the default option though.

You can do this using meeting policies in the Teams Admin Centre. The option is under the participants & guests section and is called Automatically admit people. You would want to set that to Organizer only for the meeting policy that you apply to your teachers: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoftteams/meeting-policies-in-teams#automatically-admit-people

There's a handy Microsoft page that includes this information and more for setting up teams in an educational environment: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/keeping-students-safe-while-using-teams-for-distance-learning-f00fa399-0473-4d31-ab72-644c137e11c8?ui=en-US&rs=en-GB&ad=GB

I changed ours the lobby setup when the ability came out - Teacher much prefered it, as they were setting meetings for next week & students were joining them early/using it to chat forever without any supervision. It's one of those "Fail safe" things as teachers can change it if they want to, but if they don't, you don't run the risk of students abusing it.

Great thanks, that's my view also.

I have just implemented this option today for a customer.

You can change the default using power shell

Sorry it’s a screen print the script is on my works tenancy which protects me from pasting organisational data

You run Line 5 or line 6 depending whether you want to get- or set-

Remember to replace the identity of your policy in line 6 with your own which can be queried in line 5 to then run in line 6

Quick question on this one. How long did it take for this setting to apply to all staff? Does it change the setting for meetings that have already been scheduled?

Also does anyone know to lock a meeting after it has ended?

Thanks,

Has anyone notices the options have remove "Only people in my organisation" and replaced it with "Only people in my organisation AND Guests"

This is allowing random strangers into our class teams meetings!

Hadn't noticed that, but we have guest access enabled anyway so that staff at other schools within the trust/parents can attend meetings not related to classes.

We have enabled the option for everyone but the meeting organiser to have to wait to be admitted from the lobby to ensure that staff only accept student's account and not a guest one just to be on the safe side.

Hi,

could someone point me in the direction of enabling the setting to stop pupils starting the meeting and wait for the meeting organiser to start

Thanks

Does that help?

That's on our teacher policy.

Funnily enough I am looking into this today and I cannot get it to work!!! We have that assigned (and has been for the last few hours) but still not the default for meetings being created!

Any idea how long it takes to apply?

I did n't change for the students, as I understand it they don't create the meetings so the option won't affect the lessons.
