Projector Overheating

Anyone know why this projector might be overheating?

 

Years of slack maintenance has left it unloved int he food room... smells of grease and is a bit sticky too.

could be a dodgy bulb tho i have some that say overheating and when i change the bulb they go back to normal

 

a good clean might help tho

I was asked to put a projector in the food room. I said it was a silly idea and put in a TV - at least that's passively cooled and against a wall away from the cookers.

Looks fine to me. Have you tried turning it of and on again?

Its an Optoma EX530 which we've had for over 11 years and served us well... still have about 5 going strong. Something goes wrong with the picture on them eventually where you get loads of dots over the screen which gets worse over time... can't remember which part needs replacing but its not worth it.

The throw on them is really flexible too so replacing them has always been a bit of a pain.

I did ask if she wants a TV but she likes to write on the board... and we aint buying smart tvs.

That'll be dust getting onto the LCD.

This is a fault known as creeping degradation. The individual mirrors on the DLP chip fail, either in the always on state or always off. Almost all of the Optoma projectors we had failed in this way. By contrast I have never had an Epson projector fail. Still have a lot of EB-X9s running faultlessly despise teachers efforts to ruin them by leaving them on all hours!

That's the term I was looking for, I did some research years ago when our first one went and stripped it down but it was a goner. Our oldest one is June 2008.

OP says it's been there for 11 years. That kills the argument for a TV/flat screen. Can you imagine the state something electronic would be in if you put it where you could reach it while you were cooking?!
