Edge switch replacement

Morning,

I currently have a load of HP Procurve 1800's 24/G and 1810's 24/G edge switches. They have done a fine job and when any have failed have been replaced without quibble. I am looking to buy a couple more edge switches but 1800 series are obsolete now.

 

Any recommendations around the same pricing? Not had great experiences with Netgear over the years, so anything else would be good!

we tend to go with the 2530's from aruba/hp

All of our edge switches are HP/Aruba 2530's and they've been great since they were installed in 2015. Although, they are running a firmware with a known bug, where if you make a change and save it, it crashes and restarts the switch. This was resolved in an updated firmware, but we haven't gotten round to updating them all yet.

If you already have HP kit then I would stick with it and go with Aruba so you don't have to learn all new CLI commands.

We are just finishing upgrading our Procurve 2510 and 2900's to Aruba 2540's and it has been very smooth.

The 2530G are twice as expensive as the 1800s were. Downer! You get what you pay for I suspect. Wouold just like to pay less than £200 per edge switch if possible.

 

The 1800's didn't have CLI commands so already battle between HP and Cisco so another one wouldn't hurt

 

The Unify US-24 looked in the price range but I liked the lifetime warranty which this doesn't seem to offer. Looks a slightly lesser spec throughput wise than the 1800s.

The Unifi switches are so cheap you can create your own warranty by buying spares and having them ready to go - price it up and you still save a fortune.

If you want to stick with HPE, the HPE OfficeConnect 1920S series is a pretty decent equivalent to what the 1800s were. Web managed and fine for smaller deployments.

 

Ubiquiti stuff is also a good replacement.

Which switches? Do you mix edge switches with the white ones?

 

I'm slowly replacing our Netgear switches but haven't touched the backbone yet... got 18 left to do.

 

Mainly been buying US-24-G1 and USW-16-PoE for now.

It depends on your needs but the basic Unifi switches are excellent value for money - they're not core switches but as edge switches they're very very hard to beat IMO.
