Hi Guys

I look after a number of special schools where the behaviour is very challenging and devices are frequently thrown at walls, across rooms etc

The issues tend to be around impact damage as opposed to scratching, pulling of keys etc

We are looking ideally for a Chromebook, but would consider a Windows Laptop that is very damage resistant

Unfortunately ToughBooks are out of our price range!

Any suggestions?

Wow. Erm. It may be better to go cheap and cheerful, or look at easy repairability. I’m not sure even a Toughbook can take that - a tank driving over it has nothing on a teenage tantrum!

If you go cheap, you may be able to factor spares/replacements in to a budget far easier than the sort of ruggedisation needed to survive that abuse.

Could you put them into a tough case like the Otterbox things used to be?

Good point - maybe a ChromeOS tablet in an extra-protection case? They tend to be quite affordable, too.

How about a security type cage for the laptop? Don't have to worry about the toughness of the laptop if they can't lift the thing up in the first place? We use a lot of TopTec products to secure our kit here and very happy with it - they include details like suited keys so all necessary staff can have a set. Found this - might work?
