The time has come. After months of speculation and outright fantasy guesswork, Nvidia's new cards are due to be revealed today, but at a rumoured $1400 for the flagship 3090 their lower down models may still leave a very expensive hole in consumers pockets.

On the plus side, when they do reveal pricing (and IF they do that today) then it will give AMD a chance to undercut them with their soon to be announced Big NAVI lineup.

Introducing: GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070, RTX 3090 Founders Edition

 

  • GeForce RTX 3080 — Starting at $699, the RTX 3080 is the ultimate gaming GPU — up to 2x faster than the RTX 2080. Featuring 10GB of the new high-speed GDDR6X memory running at 19Gbps, the RTX 3080 can consistently deliver 60 frames per second for 4K resolution gaming.
  • GeForce RTX 3070 — Starting at $499, the RTX 3070 is faster than the RTX 2080 Ti at less than half the price, and on average is 60 percent faster than the original RTX 2070. It is equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, hitting the sweet spot of performance for games running at 4K and 1440p resolutions.
  • GeForce RTX 3090 — At the top of the stack is the RTX 3090, priced at $1,499 and referred to as the “BFGPU” — Big Ferocious GPU. It even comes with a silencer — a three-slot, dual-axial, flow-through design that is up to 10x quieter than the TITAN RTX and keeps the GPU up to 30 degrees C cooler. Its 24GB of GDDR6X memory can tackle the toughest AI algorithms and feed massive, content creation workloads. The RTX 3090 is up to 50 percent faster than the current ultimate PC graphics card, TITAN RTX, enabling gamers to experience 60 fps in 8K resolution across many top games.

  • Exquisite Mechanical and Electrical Design — A stronger mechanical structure — with a new low-profile leaf spring along with a new 12-pin power connector — allows more space for components and cooling, and is compatible with 8-pin connectors in existing power supplies, with an included adapter.
  • HDMI 2.1 — The increased bandwidth provided by HDMI 2.1 allows, for the first time, a single cable connection to 8K HDR TVs for ultra-high-resolution gaming.
  • AV1 Decode — First discrete GPUs with support for the new AV1 codec, enabling gamers to watch up to 8K HDR internet video using as much as 50 percent less bandwidth.

It weirds me out a bit that the 3080 has less ram than my 1080ti. (I know it's like a billion times faster, but it still seems wrong)

Are you going to come across a situation where that 1Gb less RAM poses a problem though?

You can bet the 3080Ti when it comes out (after AMD have revealed their lineup) will have considerably more than 10Gb though.

Well no, and it's not going to stop me getting one. But that's not the point. It still feels weird upgrading to something with a smaller number.

More than likely, but depending on how old your board is. E.g. if you're still using DDR3 memory money will be better spent on upgrade CPU/Board/RAM than a new GPU as the 1070 is still a decent card.

Going to pair one of these bad-boys with my Phenom II. No chance I’ll be CPU limited - I have a 200MHz overclock.

I've been on ebay looking at 2080ti sold listings just to see the burn on people who bought a 2080ti before the 1st and the sellers post.. :) it's the same perverse pleasure I get from watching Olympic athletes fail. (That's what you get for trying)

People keep saying to me about the bad investment and am i going to sell to buy a 3000 Series,

 

1) It was a bad investment from the start no one pays £1200 for tech hardware and expects it to maintain value

2) I won't be upgrading the 2080ti can still run any games at ultra settings with over 100 FPS. I don't have a single game where i need more horsepower does everything i need it to do plus more!

 

Maybe when cyberpunk comes out or ray tracing becomes more common i'll look at upgrading but atm it plays all the games i play at high FPS ultra settings
