Colour Laser printer - Home use

I would like to by a colour laser printer and let em know a printer that i can buy .

I will not be printing daily .

May be weekly once or twice 10 to 15 copies.

For that few copies, why a laser?

I have had an HP laserjet CP1025 for years. It’s compact. Could be quicker, but for home use it does just fine.

 

I double installed it, so printing to Mono-printer (the default) prints only with the black toner and printing to Colour-printer prints colour. It’s a system that my technophobe husband can understand The toners, especially the colour ones, last ages!

 

And to answer localzuk’s question... I got fed up with inkjet cartridges with irregular use and, at the time of purchase, the kids were doing school printing pretty regularly.

Like you say, I used to use inkjets but as I used to print infrequently, the cartridges (or the head in an old Epson I once had) used to dry up and I was forever either running the head clean or buying new ones. I thought I'd be clever one time and buy a whole stack of spare cartridges but these dried up before I had chance to use them.

 

So I chucked the whole lot away and bought a refurb HP LaserJet P1505n from ebay. I still print infrequently but it prints perfectly every time I want to print something.

I have had loads of problems in school with inkjets that gum up because they are not used over the summer

 

and we very seldom print anything nowadays so our printer at home can go months and not be used - hence th last 2 printers I have used have been chucked because they were jammed and it was cheaper to get a new one than fix the old one

 

so this time I have got a B&W laser which fits on a shelf nicely - had it about 2 years and not changed the toner yet!!

I would keep an eye on eBay/Facebook marketplace/Gumtree as I struggled to get rid of a Brother Wi-Fi colour laser printer, sold it for £10. Hardly used.

Like most of those above, I got sick of dried out carts and nozzles when I needed to print. Got a Dell c1765nfw for around £100 on offer - taken years to need new toner and it isn't fussy about compatibles. Alas, no longer in production.

Maybe try the Xerox colour laser printers. I've found them really reliable and the ones at the school are quite old and get hammered.

I absolutely hate Inkjet Printers. Ink jets drying up, lines through page, expensive ink, ink "sponge" where the ink is soaked up and wasted. I switched to a Brother DPC 1612w few years ago and love it. No ink to dry up which is good as it sometimes goes some time without being used. So far it's got 140 pages printed on the clock and 8/10 on the toner usage and the toner is the original one to the printer. I do print quite a few documents with solid colour so if your just printing mostly text, the toner will last longer. The printing quality is great and it's miles faster at printing that an Inkjet printer. It's only a mono printer but all I needed.

every home colour laser I've tried has had mediocre image quality. (for photos) it looks like a bad newspaper image. I'd stick to a smaller cheaper mono laser printer and send off colour prints online (for photos)

Came here to post the same question.. I guess its 2020 and hardly any of us would be doing printing at home these days, seeing as though you can even get photos printed and posted to you for free these days,..

 

However now I'm stranded at home and don't have access to the works MFP I'm looking for something to use in my locked down home office. I had a colour Xerox a few years ago that was great, replacement toners not too expensive but the Fuser broke and it was prohibitive to replace..

 

I had an old workhorse HP lasertjet in the garage, served me solid for about 10 years till I just didn't need it anymore and it went into 'storage', but it had had sat there for about 5 years untouched and was absolutely covered in all sorts of gunk. I cleaned it up good and proper but the insides must have been just as caked and all the mechanical seized and then electrics burned out as soon as I powered it on.
