FACE!

Based on a BBC article and this site which apparently the cabinet has a stake in, we need to discourage face touching.

If you have G Suite then Google Meet will allow you to record your session. You start the session without inviting anyone to join it, record it and then make it available online afterwards.

Same for a Microsoft Teams meeting start it, record it its stored in Stream (or whatever its called now) or can be downloaded and you could upload into whatever system you want.

 

Ms did warn the other day the processing of those videos as its done in the cloud is on a lower priority to ensure resource for live active calls / conferences etc so maybe a bit slower to re-encode and process the output than has been in the past.

Windows has a built in recorder. Linked to gaming / Xbox thing. It doesn’t record you but anything on your machine so you could rig it to work.

 

Teams recording failed us the other day and I had to record my screen and it captured the inbound sound and mic input for the whole meeting.

 

I think you can press Windows G to activate or search for Game bar or similar. It wasn’t exactly as described in this article but I found it ok.

Quite good editing options in Photos as well. Edit, split, splice and adding titles etc.

Now that I'm back home and can now think about it yes, Google meet would work. The teacher didn't want to record themselves and I've just remembered you can present a window and record that (I think) - thanks for the pointers.

I just learned about loom today.

 

They are offering Loom Pro free to teachers and students.

I've not used it so can't compare.

 

I emailed screencastify about the 5 minute limit and this is what they said

Zoom is also an option though it is more of a comparison to hangout meet than screencastify. I prefer zoom over hangouts meet as there is more control and features also the room isn't left open.

I've signed our school up and am promoting it. If you sign up through clever you can get the 40 minute time limit lifted.

Its not quite like screencastify, but I suggested to a teacher to start a meeting alone, share the screen / slide show and narrate. It might work similar. I'll hopefully have feedback on that soon.

Something I thought about this morning for those of you who use staff local profiles. Ensure the retention date is sufficiently long. Assuming schools may be shut for months the last thing any of us want is to return to find that the cached profiles have been purged. Whilst this may not be too much of a problem I'm thinking specifically about maybe Finance/Admin staff who use bespoke software that would be a pain to set up again should the profile disappear.

I've just wrote a grim email to the head, I've put all relevant passwords in an envelope in the fireproof backup safe and said in the event of anything happening to me the location of it. I've also shared them into the network documentation.

You probably all have something like this in place, but it's something to consider if not.

I dunno if @VeryPC, @StoneGroup_JackW, @ICTDirect_Dave or others are doing anything for home users, but eBuyer, Amazon and CurrysPCWorld are all a wash right now--nothing below £500, and those aren't much cop either. It'd be mighty handy if anyone wanted to start offering a decent spec machine (i.e. Core or Ryzen, 8GB, SSD) and not terrible prices for our home users right now!

And the SharePoint Site can't be made public any more. It can work as intranet though.
