Video Chat Parents Evenings - Anyone Else?
SchoolCloudSystems replied to JRA's topic in General Chat
We've become aware of a bug in iOS 14.2 which causes stuttering audio at the start of video calls when using the Safari browser. This is the likely cause of any reported audio issues at the start of calls. We've been able to replicate this issue internally using an iOS 14.2 device. Apple is tracking this here and it looks to be resolved in the most recent iOS 14.3 Beta 3 release. -
Video Chat Parents Evenings - Anyone Else?

Only if a user refreshes the page or navigates away and comes back will the devices reset to their default. Thanks for the feedback - we'll see if we can persist the chosen devices even after users refresh or navigate away. -
I'm afraid those IP addresses do need to be allowed over TCP 443, UDP 3478, and UDP 10,000 - 60,000. Video Appointments are built using WebRTC, which uses TURN servers to relay media traffic where a direct peer-to-peer connection between each party isn't possible (which often isn't the case due to NAT/firewalls). This requires TCP 443 or UDP 3478 (depending on the browser) to connect to the TURN server to set up the connection, and then an ephemeral port is assigned in the 10,000 - 60,000 range with media traffic relayed using UDP. Note that all calls are encrypted end-to-end, and the TURN server cannot decrypt the traffic.

When we launched Video Appointments back in March, everyone was working from home where no restrictive school web-filters/firewalls were in place. Now we're finding some schools are having teachers connect to Video Appointments from within the school network, and it seems some web-filters/firewalls are blocking the connection. We recognise this isn't good if teachers cannot connect to video calls, and are doing what we can to ensure schools are now aware of this ahead of using Video Appointments. As of today, whenever an administrator enables Video Appointments on a parents' evening, they will be shown a message to advise them to check with their IT Team if they plan on having teachers connect to Video Appointments from within the school network. They are asked to share this new guide with their IT Team. Additionally, if any teacher is blocked from accessing Video Appointments, they will now be shown a friendly message explaining this is the case. We're now looking into what else we can do to ensure this doesn't happen to others, although we hope now giving a "heads-up" to every school activating Video Appointments will go a long way.

We're on-hand to help with this, and rest assured, we're doing all that we can to ensure virtual parents' evenings are a success. May I ask if you're using Microsoft Surface devices? They have a known issue whereby the front camera isn't detected as a front camera by browsers and defaults to the rear camera. Firefox specifically patched support into their browser. A quick search online reveals many results about the same issue. Shortly we'll be releasing an update to be able to change the camera used to workaround this issue.

Room Booking System Ltd is now School Cloud Systems
SchoolCloudSystems replied to SchoolCloudSystems's topic in MIS Systems
We're definitely still here and doing better than ever with more a million people across 3,000 schools relying upon us. Which number did you dial? We've been helping many schools already this morning as the new academic year starts. -
We may be an EdTech supplier rather than a school, however we use https://www.helpscout.net/ and can thoroughly recommend.

Resource and room booking in Office 365 / SIMS
SchoolCloudSystems replied to MrWu's topic in Cloud Services
Hi Wil, we're one of the sponsors here at Edugeek and provide a package called 'Room Booking System' which integrates with SIMS to sync all timetable data including classes, suspensions, cover and room closures. We also have a feature to enable an iCal feed which could populate an Office 365 calendar. Here's our website which offers a free trial: Room Booking System - Online Room Booking Software -
Yes, it pulls all the data from the Progresso API. Anything which affects room availability in Progresso should be synced to our system. No CSV files here! We make both Room Booking System and Parents Evening System, both of which fully integrate with Progresso.
-
We offer the Room Booking System which is fully integrated with Progresso. It picks up the timetable, cover swaps and room closures too. Either speak to your Progresso Account Manager or contact us directly for more information - we sponsor this very forum. There are plenty others here that use us already!
-
We've been advised by Capita support that the data is only available via the Applicant focus. We read pre-admission data for our Parents Evening System product and ran into the same thing when trying to export contact data.

If talking about the system the OP is using, you can normally configure LDAPS by prefixing the DC's IP address with ldaps:// and then appending the port number for LDAPS, usually 636. For example ldaps://54.215.154.12:636. If you're asking about our system and the option for ADFS/SAML, contact us by email to set it up as it's not yet available on the settings page.
-
Would agree a Read Only Domain Controller would be the safest approach, with LDAPS only to ensure credentials are encrypted. Although rather than in a DMZ, perhaps allow only the IPs of the supplier access. If it was ourselves, would have suggest ADFS/SAML Authentication which doesn't require any new ports to be opened.
