Are MS ever going to fix their poxy Start Menu problems - its now affecting my 2019 server running RDS

Anyone logging in to an RDS desktop gets the desktop and redirected icons OK but the start menu does nothing, click or right click. It just highlights but does nothing

This goes back to the first flipping build of Windows 10 and I'm sick of it cropping up even today in server products as well. Its a core part of the OS and they still can't get it to work consistently!

As is it now, I've had to tell users to use the Remote Apps instead as the desktop is useless until this is fixed.

I’ve deleted the profiles and it didn’t help. It does work as an admin account as you say though. It did work ok until recently as well so I’m guessing the last update borked things again

This is such a typical W10 style issue.

RDS session on W10 client, open desktop and the Start menu doesn't work

RDS session on iOS client, open the desktop and the Start menu works fine

I mean, FFS this start menu problem should have gone years ago!

I'd say it's too long out of development to be a good plan nowadays. I haven't got any other ideas at the moment though - what profile type are you using? Anything in the logs?

Ive had this with startmenu not loading, icons missing etc. I believe it is to do with windows firewall being loaded everytime when they log in.

login as /admin using domain admin credentials on each RDS host, backup registry, then delete all items in the following location (leave the top item there though)Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\FirewallRules

Its local profiles, no CSM as we removed that a couple of years ago. Its daft that it works in the iOS app, but not Windows.

I'll just stick with the RemoteApps functionality, that seems to work at least

I've also gone through server 2016 and 2019 on RDS. Usually the modern apps haven't installed into the users profile in appdata/local/packages. Sometimes the App Rediness service needs restarting. I also wrote a PS script to force the apps to install on every login as when using UPD or FSLogix the OS stores user installed apps info per host.

I have actually experienced this myself on a second session on the same server . So same user , 2nd session . aslong as only 1 session is active for a user on a server then its ok..
