Alternative to Milestone CCTV?

We've used milestone for cctv for a few years now, but now need to upgrade and extend our cameras, which pushes us over the 48 camera limit of Express

 

Milestone are taking the mickey with their pricing for Professional to allow 50+ cameras, so they're not an option anymore. Has anyone else moved away from Milestone like this? Unfortunately our SLT like the software and playback facilities but they will change their mind when they see the pricing!

HikVision. We have 2 32 camera NVRs. The second NVR is not yet fully populated (room for 8 more cameras)

 

No issues to date. We had the first NVR installed over three years ago.

Never heard of Luxriot but first impressions are good, are you just using the free versions?

 

Mind you once you get over 48 cameras the price is £4k and more!

We use luxriot evo here too, not the most intuitive setup on the admin side but wasn't that bad, and user side is nice and simple. I've found playback a little slow, but not unusably so, not sure what other peoples experience is?

Haven't noticed playback is slow. Running it on a physical machine, 16GB RAM. The processor is a Xeon E5-2620 v3.

I've been having a play with Luxriot and it seems good - the scan found all of my cameras straight away, which Milestone didn't manage to do! Shame I can only have 8 cameras on the free version but so far I'm impressed

The software is significantly cheaper than what you would expect, we paid around £850 for it.

I'm using ExacqVision on two servers, each with about 90 cameras. It's service only consumes about a 1GB of RAM and it's CPU usage is negligible. I don't think it does any transcode operations during recording or viewing. All of our cameras are POE Axis cameras that use either MPEG2 or H264. Pretty good piece of software. Not one of numerous things I have to worry about.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think Luxriot is the best for us - £1200 for 72 cameras and its visually similar to Milestone, so SLT will be happy to switch.

 

Can't believe Milestones pricing, £8300 for the same setup, they really don't want your business!

Feel free to give me a shout if you want any help with the setup. We have ours setup with Active Directory Authentication, it makes it easier to hide cameras from some staff who use the system.

We are currently testing Luxriot and I really like the system apart from that we have very pronounced lag moving around the timeline. The system is useable but the lag is very noticeable when compared to our existing (and very expensive to expand) Avigilon software.

 

When moving to a specific time point using "Go to time", it probably takes about 10-20 seconds on a 4 or more camera layout for the camera timelines to refresh and become usable to scrub back and forth. Luxriot support are exceptionally responsive and have been great so far in helping adjust camera and system settings accordingly but it hasn't improved the issue substantially.

 

I wanted to know what others experience of moving around the timeline is like. Our VM and SAN storage are fast so I don't think it's a system requirements issue. I might just be expecting too much when comparing it to Avigilon which is exceptionally smooth and quick moving around the timeline on a multiple camera view.

I get very similar performance to ap_

 

Server used to only have 4 cameras on it, now has 8 but performance has been the same. Server only has 1gig network, but that should be enough? My pc is an i7 with 12gb ram, and the server is virtualised but is the only vm running on the server, and has 4 cores and 16gb ram allocated to it, only sata disks but has 4 of them in a raid 10 array.

Many thanks for your replies. I will PM you or start a new thread once I do some more troubleshooting with Luxriot support.

 

For info, we have a dual virtual processor VM (Xeon E5-2643 v4,12GB and fast SAN) which is almost identical to and on the same hardware as our existing Avigilon VM which has many more streams and runs smoothly with instantaneous movement around the timeline. The same lag occurs when running Monitor on the VM itself or a fast PC.

We moved to Hikvision from an older AXIS installation 3 years ago. we're a large site so installed a 128 channel NVR with 80TB storage. It's capable of around 4 and a half months retention with 125 cameras recording on motion activation. The IVMS-4200 camera software is pretty simple to use and is more than suitable for our needs. We installed all of the cameras ourselves apart from some external high level work that required a cherry picker.

 

Camera price is around the £100 mark or less for most 4k external and internal domes and turrets unless you start to go for the higher spec models.

We are currently looking to change our VMS due to our existing one not being up to the job anymore. We have spent a substantial amount in upgrading the hardware so only a software solution is needed. I ran the demo of Luxriot, very impressed but couldn't get over the fact that when you try to do some research on them they don't seem to exist. Hardly any reviews, articles, web presence in search engines etc which felt odd to me considering they have been around for quite some time. I have been trialling Milestone which again is a great product but trying to get an extended licence or even some sort of sense out of them is like pulling teeth. An element of pricing came through on Friday which was eyewatering.

 

After spotting this thread (I should have looked here first) I am now swinging back to Luxriot. Did you guys deal with Luxriot direct with regards to purchasing or have you to go through a reseller?

 

Can anyone give me any more pro's and con's with Luxriot to help me in my recommendations to our SLT?
