A couple of weeks ago I won an eBay auction for an i5 6400 and Asus motherboard for a princely £70 inc. postage. I'm using this as the base for a new PC for my daughter.

The seller had, for 'reasons' not managed to dispatch it until today (next day delivery mind) and as an apology has said that they have included a graphics card with it.

I'm now more looking forwards to getting this mystery card and to see where it fits in with the spare GT640 and GTX 460 I had put aside for the build. I can't fit the 460 yet as I had to order some power cables for it and seeing as branded ones cost over £20 each I'm having some sent from China which will arrive in the new year.

I'll bet it's an S3 Virge knowing my luck!

My daughter only plays things like Minecraft and The Sims, so doesn't need a beefy card.

I'll let you all know how dire it is when it arrives.

Probably just a GT 210 or equivalent. I've found it's better to buy an OEM pc and upgrade it. I got a Lenovo Thinkcentre E73 and put a i3 4130 and another 4gb of ram. A descent SFF machine and a LP 1050 ti would definitely make it a capable machine for gaming.

being pessimistic

but based on experience

basic rock bottom graphic card installed as on board graphic failed????

or something that was lying on a shelf and was so old they had no idea what it was??

(reminds me that wife's son has left one in 'his' room - so I need to clear it out - I think the serial number is written in Saxon runes

I have already freecycled 4 Xboxes, several playstations and several thousand games

and $deity knows how many unlabelled DVD and CD disks!!!)

adding to the above

I can see a point to the USA concept of being able to own full military grade machine guns

get old games machines and similar stuff of child who left home over a decade ago and pile it up in an artist manner

then open up on full auto

and they have to clear up the mess while you go to the bar

That's what I'm hoping for. Some kind of mystery/long forgotten failed gpu that had been disowned by it's manufacturer due to its fan creating harmonic frequencies that attract giant moths.

It's arrived and is a.....GT 710.

It's even worse that the CPU based GPU!

Hey! I bought one of those only last year for my HTPC. Price seems to have more than doubled since. If you were local, I'd take it off your hands. (Just had a work PC delivered that won't fit my GFX card).

Okay then, how about £70 inc. postage?
