6Foot2 Posted February 24, 2020 Author Posted February 24, 2020 Excellent episodes but what was the drilling in to the cyber man about? I wondered that - the fam would've had plenty of time to escape if he'd needed to repeat that with each Cyberman. Modifications? My guess is that our broken cyberman wants his cohorts to feel something again. Alternatively it couldn't just been a plot device to show how scary this one is. Once the Broken Cyberman had completed any required modifications to one, the modified one goes on to make modifications of his own, those two go on to make their own modifications, the numbers of newly broken, modifying cybermen increasing exponentially. Modifications, perhaps, but to what end?...
ICTDirect_Dave Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Also what was the Ireland plotline about? One of the timeless children I presume?
mavhc Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Universe wide seeding of mind wiped time lords as a backup?
mikeprice Posted February 28, 2020 Posted February 28, 2020 One of the timeless children I presume? the waking up after clearly being killer looked very much like a Captain Jack sort of thing he is bound to crop up again soon we shall see
CHiLL Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 I quite enjoyed the second half of the season. Clearly this is a multi (or at least two) series story arc for The Doctor, but it did leave me a little confused and annoyed. What I really liked is that The Doctor became a bit more authoritative and angry. This is something that both the 10th and 11th Doctors did very well...playful but had an anger or rage when pushed to the limit and made some great speeches. This is something that I think this Doctor has struggled with - she often seems weaker or confused all the time. Maybe that's part of the story line with recent revelations...but I don't think that's the case.
E_G_R2 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Anyone else wonder if the Cybermen attended the same military training as Imperial Storm Troopers? Both of them have trouble hitting the target Defiantly much improved over the last season and I'm really warming to Jodie as the doctor. Interesting about the regenerations but then they need to address the doctors ability to regenerate more often and at a tangent as well. Like the thought of a new timelord secret society much like the CIA of old. Regenerating Cybermen and the master escape? Oh and I like this Master very much. Is this the end of the fam? I kind of hope so
LeMarchand Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Is this the end of the fam? I kind of hope so I'm more worried that it might get bigger and add Julie Graham, the kid and the Bez (from The Happy Mondays) lookalike.

Interesting about the regenerations but then they need to address the doctors ability to regenerate more often and at a tangent as well. They kinda did in dialogue. It was Tecteun who suggested that the Time Lords be limited to 12 regenerations, so that surely didn't apply to The Doctor, as she wasn't Shobogan? Though then that throws the The Time of The Doctor when he was granted more by The Time Lords. It's all rather confusing, but Doctor Who has never been one for canon
clareq Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 He was granted more regenerations by Time Lords who didn't know he was the Timeless Child. They had no idea he would regenerate anyway. 2
LeMarchand Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Though then that throws the The Time of The Doctor when he was granted more by The Time Lords. May have been BS to keep up appearances. The current story fits better with the scene in "The Brain of Morbius" when we see what appear to be pre-Hartnell Doctors. It's all rather confusing, but Doctor Who has never been one for canon True! 1
FishCustard Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Except the 11th Doctor "grew old" because he couldn't regenerate... Then again, that would be easy to hand-wave as "he thought he couldn't regenerate, so he didn't bother trying", perhaps with some vague implication that attempting to regenerate another time would lead to instant horrible death for "normal" Time Lords. 1
DJ-1701 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 *This is just 200 characters of text that can be used to hide comments from iSpy so people have to read the post if they are interested and not spoil anything for those just browsing. Text Completed.* One thing is for sure... it's certainly muddied the waters and opened the flood gates more than any other reveal. There is so, so, so much 'canon' that has to be re-explained at the least to fit in with this. Except the 11th Doctor "grew old" because he couldn't regenerate... Technically a Time Lord regenerates when he is close to death, growing old is a natural process anyway.
witch Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Loved it! But I do agree - blimey those Cyberman are bad shots! 1
paulkerton Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 I believe the official terminology is "wibbly wobbly timey wimey" Anyway, I thought it was a great episode. Sacha Dhawan has been excellent. Could've been a great Doctor, let alone Master. 1

They got around the regeneration limits because it was revealed that The Doctor is The Timeless Child - from another dimension and has the natural ability to regenerate, seemingly without limitations. Tecteun spent her life dedicated to unraveling the secrets of regeneration and finally solved the mystery and tested it on herself. She regenerated and became Rassilon (the founder of the Time Lords). Rassilon used this knowledge to create a new species with the genetic ability to regenerate - but with a limit of 12 regenerations (for reasons we don't know). Therefore The Doctor isn't just a Time Lord, she is the original specimen who's genetic basis was used to create every other time lord (hence why The Master was angry because a part of him is The Doctor).

Becoming Rassilon would make perfect sense by both old and new Who... but I don't remember them saying that this name was taken, Rassilon could have just been credited falsely as part of the mythos of the Time Lords... as Rassilon was in exile, would make sense for the Doctor to look for him.
E_G_R2 Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Depending on which Canon you follow in the Virgin New Adventures Book Lungbarrow it was noted that the doctor had a belly button suggesting that he was born naturally. Other timelords were genetically spun and were not naturally born so do not have belly buttons. This fits in with this episode. Now how about this. Tecteun found the child who had come through a portal. This child was from a future Galifrey!

You could also argue that as regeneration completely changes the exterior appearance of a Timelord, a belly button might be no different to hair colour.

Yes but in Timelord society in the novel it was a stigma and something to be ridiculed (not that I'm being belly button ist)
