[1903, au] Photoviewer

I have the art department adament they still want to use photoviewer as an image preview utility... I've tried a few thing ssuggested on google-fu to try and find/re-enable it but to no avail. Can anyone point me in the direction of how to do this, or a suitable alternative?

I don't know about 1903, but it worked for me on both 1803 and LTSC2019.

On an older version of W10 I removed a load of stuff that turned out to be needed: Calculator, Photos and Camera. Can't remember where I got the info and not got time to search, but I have a script that runs at logon if it hasn't already successfully run that installs the AppX packages.

 

Dism /Online /Add-ProvisionedAppxPackage /PackagePath:"\\PATHtoFILE\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe.appxbundle" /LicensePath:"\\PATHtoFILE\Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe.xml"

 

Not sure where I got the files or XMLs from; possibly a different installation.

Restored Photoviewer for all our LTSB 2016 machines with some reg entries, not sure about 1903 specifically but some of these threads may have helpful information...

We do it through Computer Configuration>Preferences>Windows Settings>Registry with each registry entry added manually, you might be able to import the .reg file in to the GPO. It's been ages since I did one but you should be able to drag the reg file in to the GPO. If not it might be a case of editing the .reg in notepad to see what all the entries are

you can't just import reg file, it has to be xml - tried a script to convert it but it failed.

And registry file for this is huge, lots of argumnets for lots of keys

Sorry, I can't help you with that. I did it directly on the machine before capturing the image and deploying.

You can have a computer startup batch file that deploys a .reg file. We've got the same process here and it works fine.
