Disaster :(

My daughter wanted an iphone for her 15th birthday and has saved her paper round money and the price got reduced to £169 so it came within reach but they are all sold out everywhere except ebay!

I've always been a reluctant ebay buyer but it looks like needs must.

Has anyone bought one of these recently and if so could you PM me with the sellers ebay id so I could check to see if they have any more?

regards

iPhone at 15 WTF thats sooooo gonna get broken Simon. I wouldn't get her an iPhone until she was much older. You get teh iPhone and give her it when you upgrade in a years time :)

I'm not buying it (I don't get paid enough to have one !) - she's buying it and paying for the contract.

She kept all her Xmas money towards its and has saved up her paper round and is putting all her birthday money towards it - she's quite determined to get one :) but even she balks at paying out £329 + £35/month for the 16Gb version that is the only one left in the O2 store.

Ebay sellers are offering them at £339 contract free so if she sticks with her 02 simplicty contract at £15/month, it would work out a lot cheaper over 18 months.

But, like i say, i'm very sceptical to part with such a large sum to an ebay seller for it.

For that item with the lock downs that have happened I would be tempted to phone O2 and demand the right model direct from them they will be willing to solve it if your existing customer especially if you say you will your use legs and walk to Orange or one of the other networks.

But then you will have to pay additional data charges won't you? I was looking and T-Mobile have some good tariffs if you do go for an unlocked iPhone.

All 8G models in UK are gone - none available from 02 anywhere :- even Apple don't have any (apple don't even have any 16G) :(

She doesn't want/need the data - she just wants it for use as an combined ipod/phone/looking cool :)

She's not a big txtr and the O2 Simplicity (400 mins/200 texts (or is it the other way round??? ) does her fine.

I'm just looking for someone who's got experience of these unlocked phones/sucessfully buying from ebay :)

I know people who have sucessfully unlocked the phones and used them on a PAYG tariff. I'm not sure how updates will work though. I would imagine that if you upgrade the firmware through iTunes then it'll revert back to being locked to o2 and I suppose that there is a chance that the phone will break entirely.

Has she looked at the LG Viewty? That's a nice phone and is similar to the iPhone in some respects.

can she not wait until some become available?

The old models aren't going to be restocked according to Apple, as they are ramping up to do the iPhone 3G release. Which undoubtedly will cost more.

also.... let her know that once she shows the phone to people at school it will more than likely get nicked and all her hard work will be down the drain!

If you do manage to get hold of a IPhone that is locked - I have unlocked many IPhone's since christmas - All working fine now on PAYG and T-Mobile contracts.

PM me for details..

One of our staff at work has one.

She dropped it and has cracked the screen at the bottom so now it lives in a rubber case so you can't see the crack.

In addition to this she has just asked me.

How can she open media messages, she can recieve them but can't open them if that makes sense.

Any help would put me in her good books.

Well - we bit the bullet and bought off ebay!

Ordered Tues evening, arrived Friday morning (1 day later than promised)

It works fine - it comes with ample warnings about not updating the phone so you can't say we haven't ben warned.

Its very good and she is very happy - the weather forecasts are 100% correct so far :)
