[ms office - o365] Office 365 A1 Plus Licensing

Here's a quick crib sheet to help anyone else who goes down this maze:

 

 

1. Check eligibility from here - essentially, if you have O365 A1 already, and have Office ProPlus through EES or OVS, then you're eligible
   
2. Ensure your Pro Plus licensing is on your AAD tenant; your licensing provider may need to add this for you
   
3. Activate the Pro Plus licensing on AAD tenant, and ensure you can see it on your licensing page
   
4. Visit https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/education/products/office and attempt a self-service signup, for some schools this may be enough to activate A1 Plus licensing
   
5. For a lot of people though, it won't, so open a case with Office 365 support:
   
   • Do not allow them to fob you off and say it is a Volume Licensing issue; it is not and VL support cannot help you
     
   • They need to make sure you have the EDU tag on your domain, to denote you are a school
     
   • If the support agent does not know how to provision the A1 Plus licensing for you, they need to escalate it to the AVE team
     

 

[*]When the AVE team have provisioned the licensing for you, you'll need to take one student and one teacher account through self-signup, which should cause the licensing to activate, and appear on your AAD tenant.

 

Do not let support tell you this is an additional product to buy, it is not, or that you need to go through a Cloud Solutions Provider, you do not. Only Microsoft can provision this licensing. I can only echo what others have said, keep fighting your corner, you are in the right. If anyone needs my case ref as an example resolution, go ahead, I was ticket 17138820.

 

Just so I don't get fobbed off easily, do you know what the AVE team is exactly? Does it stand for something?

Here is our order confirmation from Microsoft detailing the order for an additional number of A1 student and faculty licences, ordered through Insight at zero cost.

 

They are called ProPlus here but they come through as A1 (the real ProPlus having been already ordered, this was just a top-up).

 

Even when I look at it, it's mad!

After a couple of calls yesterday with MS Support I'm pretty certain AVE stands for Academic Verification Engine. If you google it, Microsoft actually have a site (https://www.msacademicverify.com)

with this name but it appears to be where individuals go to prove their academic status rather than institutions such as ourselves. I don't think we're on their verified list but I think I finally got through to someone who knows what to do... I was asked for my OVS agreement number that had the MS Office license on it, our domain (I gave them the sch.uk one) and I was asked if I was K12 or Higher Education. They say they're going to get back to me - fingers crossed...

Hopefully they won't come back to you and ask you for evidence of ownership on the domain, ie, invoices etc. They have for others, who have then been baffled about how to prove they've "paid" for their sch.uk domain... Luckily, we had bought ours, a shorter one, and had the paperwork to prove it.

I did read through this thread before getting mine activated and i used a reference number some one had posted here

 

I was asked for domain proof of ownership ( .org.uk address not a SCH.uk )

 

I was then asked to do the following

 

Goto https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/educ...roducts/office

 

Enter my Admin email

 

Click Im a teacher , and go through the setup

 

Then do the same and select im a student while also using the admin email ( may use a different browser because of cookies)

 

I also had to deselect the " New admin interface" toggle in the O365 Admin panel , seems it may have been caching something.

 

Unsure if they had to do anything on their end .. Possibly ! but worth giving it a shot before any one contacts them again.

I was asked for EES or OVS-ES agreement. Can anyone tell me how to have the Office ProPlus through EES or OVS-ES to be eligible?

 

This is the response from MS support:

 

In regards of your query, the Education plus licenses are based on an eligibility program and your Tenant needs to have the Following:

 

 

1. To be tagged as an Educational Tenant which is already in place.
   
2. You have to have Enrollment for Education Solutions, Open Value Subscription Education Solutions, or a school contract agreement.
   
3. The agreement has to be company-wide - which means that they would have to purchase a license for every single user.
   

If you don't have an agreement in your Tenant find attached to this E-Mail PDFs related to how to obtain an agreement and the benefits of an agreement as it is a must in enabling the Educational Plus licenses for your Tenant.

Once you obtain a contract agreement you would need to escalate a new service request with the data satisfying the fill in below:

These used to be called 'Office 365 Pro Plus for Faculty' and 'Office 365 Pro Plus for Students'. Theses licenses are free if you have already licensed Office Pro Plus for your entire organisation. Your reseller should send you some activation codes for theses two licenses so that you can add them to your tenancy. Then contact Microsoft and ask them to activate the Office 365 A1 Plus licenses for you. It may take a few days but they should add them eventually. I went through this frustrating process back in October 2019 so things may have changed since then but we now have 5000 student and 5000 faculty A1 Plus licenses.

I could never get mine to activate in VLSC, I always ended up going through VLSC support and getting them to give me license codes to activate the two products...... I might have been being impatient though!

Yes, it is. Btw, can someone please show me the Part Number and Part Description of Office 365 Proplus for Students and for Faculty in your OVS-ES subscription?

Our reseller offers us several products of Office 365 Proplus for Faculty as OVS-ES subscription with very high prices. ~10.000USD per year per 10 users??? I don't know why it's quite expensive???

(We already have 'unlimited' Office 365 A1 Pro Plus licences which were added a few years ago FOC and have pushed out O365 using Shared Device Activation successfully at no further cost - so if you have these already, you're set.)
