Hi Guys,

 

Just wondering how you deal with the disposal of waste toner?

We used to have a company collect both waste toner and empty toner cartridges but they've started to refuse the waste toner now. Starting to get quite the collection of them!

We get our waste toner collected alongside our empty toner cartridges for free. If they wouldn't take the waste toner and I couldn't find a replacement company, I'd get rid of it alongside any old IT equipment when we get our IT kit disposed of as long as they're getting a good haul of PCs/monitors etc. those companies will usually take it as well with no charge.

Maybe I should've asked "What companies do you guys recommend?" I've already contacted a couple but had very little response.

Haha, sorry couldn't help it! :) The companies I use are all local so I wouldn't be able to help if you're in the midlands I'm afraid.

 

Depending on the manufacturer as well, they might run a collection program themselves. I know HP was when I had those and Canon supposedly does (although not for our printers!).

Having a WEEE receptacle on-site is a great idea. What type/size do you use and how often do you have it collected?

 

 

Well that's news to us as we engaged with their services nearly two years ago and they told us directly that they do not take waste toner cartridges or waste toner bottles!

 

Did you ask them about toner, or was it a condition they specifically pointed out to you?

 

Either way... shh...have you tried sneaking some in?

A regular "Biffa" type bin, the large commercial bins, and we request a collection when full, which greatly depends!

We were specifically told no waste of any kind except electrical equipment!

 

We did try to sneak waste toners and bottles in but we received an e-mail telling us to refrain from sending waste in future collections.

The IT recyclers we use - Blackmore Ricotech - will also take toners in any condition. I'm not sure if they'll supply a bin or not (as we don't use them for toner recycling oddly) but their website does clearly state that they will take toners.

Waste toner just does in the bin simple as, always done that.

Without getting all environmental about it, please research and see if there is an alternative means of disposal.

I was told that they take empty toner, and asked the delivery guys about waste bottles and they said yes.

Yes they are. They send you a flat pack cardboard box then once it is filled (at least 10 items) you seal it up and call them up and they arrange for a courier to collect it and they send over another box.

We have Kyocera MFDs and use their toner take back service kyocera.takeback.eu and have found it to be very easy to use. Kyocera send you a large cardboard box or boxes for toners and waste toners and when they are full Kyocera will arrange a courier to pick them up.

 

Obviously this is only useful if you have Kyocera toners

No luck with ECS The Greener Side - seems they are very particular, only taking in waste toner from photocopiers which have been supplied by their 'authorised dealers' :(

 

Back to Google I go!

 

Really want to avoid chucking them in the bin like our print supplier recommended.
