So I've been asked to see if we can hold any email sent overnight to dissuade people from feeling like they don't have to reply to the email straight away.

I can find a solution if everyone was using Outlook Desktop client but most staff are using OWA or collecting it on an iPad.

My initial Googling of the issue suggests that its a function of the email client and while its built into to Google's offering I can't find a way to achieve it on Office365.

Has anyone achieved this or does this need to be pushed back as an 'Organisational Culture' issue?

Thank in advance

Last time we looked it was this. Maybe changed, but there was no way a year ago.

I was asked to if we could pause mail being delivered over a weekend to which I couldn't help bursting into hysterical laughter!

I reminded the HT that all this would do is deliver 100s of emails first thing on a Monday morning ...he then saw the funny side of the logic!

We now have a policy in place which states no mail to be sent between the hours of 6pm and 7am and no mail on a weekend unless its an absolute emergency ...all Staff have agreed to this, its an educational thing!

Its working well ...:)

It's barely possible, its even harder once you dig into it and realise that some emails will need to be delivered and it's impossible to tell the difference.

Would you mind expanding on that a little?

How are you approaching the issue?

I was asked to look into this last year - the only way I found software wise was https://www.codetwo.com/blog/a-ban-o...r-work-emails/ but it was £600 or something a year.

It blew over and we didnt do anything with it, I feel it should just be a policy to everyone that they are not expected to check email at that time, and make it clear. It was only the teachers anyway as SLT, IT, Estates etc needed out of hours notifications.

i THINK its possible with a few caveats. 1 you use ad sync and 2 you dont mind booting them off pcs as well. i believe if you use ad sync and you set up allowed hours office 365 respects that but again ive not tried this

You may be able to use conditional access to stop authentication to Exchange Online out of hours. I think the token lasts 8 hours though. Maybe a transport rule could do it. But the larger question is, if your staff are remote working is why.

It's like asking your local postie to hang on to all your mail in their van whilst you're away for the weekend. No, it goes through your letterbox as normal. Your mail, your job to manage it.
