Hello superior cyber beings, I need your help.

 

Our headteacher now has an iMac (they used to teach design)

 

And I was wondering if anyone knew an easy solution to get SIMS running on macOS.

 

This would only need to be for a temporary period of time.

 

I don’t really want to use Bootcamp or a full machine as I know the head will struggle with opening SIMS on a Mac.

 

I was thinking Parallels might be a solution however I can’t really justify the expense as we will eventually be moving to cloud SIMS.

 

I’m not sure Wine will be able to achieve what I need as I’m not really sure that would work with the SIMS install process.

 

Is there an open source equivalent to Parallels or a solution anyone can suggest that might work?

Virtualbox will do the job for free, but wont be as seamless

 

Id just take the hit on parallels personally, its only a matter of time before he notices he doesn't have publisher or something else! it can be setup to open stuff directly from osx and auto start the vm as needed - have a go of the trial

I would run Parallels with a Windows VM and then use 'Coherence Mode' (https://kb.parallels.com/4670).

 

Avoids the end user need to know that they're using a PC at all and won't break the bank. Virtual Box will allow the running of a Windows VM but not so seamless

We stream Sims to our RD gateway.... so could also use internally, fine on mac

I second the Remote Desktop App suggestion. As it's temporary. Although I don't suppose you'll enjoy the faff of setting up a gateway for a short period either. Could you leave a disused windows pc running that you could run a remote session to once in a while?

Remote desktop or Parallels. At Apple we always recommended Parallels when trying to run Windows software. But if your about to move to SIMS Cloud - RM would be a better cost saving.
