6Foot2 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 We had a Jersey Tiger land on our kitchen window (inside) Identification: Google. 1
Dos_Box Posted July 20 Posted July 20 Took part in a moth survey at my girlfriends dads house on the south side of the Ribble estuary on Saturday. A great day, lot's of moths and butterflies out, then some nice (and much needed) downpours in the afternoon as we were all hading home. Not bad pics for a phone camera! 4
6Foot2 Posted July 21 Posted July 21 We had a Gatekeeper (aka Hedge brown) visit the mint planted by 5Foot2. Identification: Google images. 2
LeMarchand Posted July 21 Posted July 21 We have had a hedgehog take up residence; s/he can often be heard drinking from/tipping up the enamel bowl of water we leave out for the cat. We have since put out a few more drinking spots, but the enamel bowl seems to be favoured. Plus, the other morning I stepped out of the front door to hear rustling in the low shrub on the right of the path in the narrow flower bed between our path and the neighbour's gravel "lawn". I assumed it was one of the neighbourhood cats until a fox sloped away, giving me a "I was enjoying my sleep!" look. 2
6Foot2 Posted October 12 Posted October 12 This "little" fella was caught in the strike jamb of my workshop door today: Google says that it is a European hornet. I reported the sighting to the Bees Wasps & Ants Recording Society (BWARS). 1
Dos_Box Posted October 12 Posted October 12 We don't often see hornets up here, and defo one insect I keep well away from!
Andrew_C Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Had a few over the summer - fairly sure they were European ones.
LeMarchand Posted October 15 Posted October 15 (edited) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cked321vzlxyo Rare albino stag photographed in Devon. Don't let the Kids from "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" know! Edited October 15 by LeMarchand

Ditto Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Now that is cool! Merlin Bird ID app on steroids! What camera do you have and is the feed wired or wireless. What with Christmas around the corner, I can see this on my list...

Ecowitt WH51 Wireless Soil Moisture Sensor, connects to a GW2000 gateway with a WS90 weather station providing other helpful info. I tend to overwater or forget to water and have really struggled to grow basic things. So it started monitoring the soil moisture for a sunflower which managed to get 7ft tall in a pot and now its keeping an eye on a rose cutting (I haven't got round to changing the graph name yet!). Home Assistant sends me a notification when it needs watering or if its getting too wet 1 hour ago, Ditto said: Now that is cool! Merlin Bird ID app on steroids! Reolink Elite Floodlight Wi-Fi, but any camera that picks up sound and has an RTSP feed can be used. 1
