LeMarchand Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Two of the four hedgehogs visiting our garden had a spat last night! Are you sure they were fighting?
Andrew_C Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Are you sure they were fighting? In the words of Nanny Ogg - "The Hedgehog can't be b******d!"
elsiegee40 Posted June 15, 2020 Author Posted June 15, 2020 No. But these two have been pushing and shoving for a week or so and the little one always comes of worse. It’s looking more like aggression and less like love every day!
witch Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Finally got to see a hedgehog - we disturbed one that was sleeping in an old bucket under some bits and pieces in my sister's garden. He wasn't pleased and when we went back an hour or so later, he had gone. But at least we saw him (or her) 1
6Foot2 Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 Found this chap this morning on the wall near my office: Sorry about the naff quality. It's a combination of my phone's camera and the moth being somewhat inaccessible/tricky to photograph. 2

elsiegee40 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 Not much I can say about this! It looks like romance is progressing! 1

elsiegee40 Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 (edited) Well... we have both romance and fighting happening with different hedgehogs on the same night. The aggressor in this one regularly sends other hedgehogs packing @LeMarchand Romance [video=youtube_share; t8kGaHO1PQY] Fight EDIT Not sure why preview not showing in app Edited July 2, 2020 by elsiegee40
Popular Post LeMarchand Posted July 1, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 1, 2020 I can't believe a mod has posted videos featuring s-e-x and violence on here. Tut tut! 5
6Foot2 Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Today's visitor: @5Foot2 (my wife) thinks it could be a swallow-tailed moth. 2
Ditto Posted July 2, 2020 Posted July 2, 2020 Yep, I'd agree swallow-tailed moth. Seems to be a lot of moths in your area right now - any reason? Other posters, let's stay away from the mischievous comments...

VeryPC Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 I was lucky enough to see a fawn at the weekend while on a walk in the woodland area of my village. All these years living here and I never knew we had deer family in the area! -Nicole 1
elsiegee40 Posted July 6, 2020 Author Posted July 6, 2020 I got sent home from the wildlife rescue where I volunteer with a heavily pregnant hedgehog. She got stuck in a hole in a building site and can’t be released back there because it’s not safe. We have a healthy population round here with at least 5 individuals visiting our feed station. Our hedgehog house has been unoccupied this year, so she’s been shut in there and will be let out at dusk. Hopefully she’ll decide it’s a good nest site and stay there. I have set the trail camera up so we can observe without disturbing her. 1

Ditto Posted July 6, 2020 Posted July 6, 2020 Went for a late evening walk and saw 5 deer, 2 fox, a fluffle of rabbits but most amazingly of all a badger just a couple of hundred yards from home. I think the badger was slightly startled by me, as s/he charged across the cul-de-sac, dived in a hedge and then thundered down the edge of someones house with all sorts being knocked flying. To be honest it was more akin to the behaviour of a rummaging wart-hog. Sadly, no pictures, but shows the benefit of heading out at dusk. 1
johnathanadams Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 only saw a rabbit on my walk, but that was still nice, hopping along 2
Ditto Posted July 8, 2020 Posted July 8, 2020 Sticking with the hopping theme, I was playing a damp game of tennis this evening and something moved near the service line. On checking, it was the tiniest frog! It must have completed it's tadpole to frog morphing very recently, barely a centimetre in length. We helped it off court to avoid feet and tennis balls. Didn't even have my phone with me as it was on charge, so annoyingly no photo again. There's probably a frog and tennis pun, but none come to mind right now! 3
Syman_a Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Met this beauty while opening the school this morning 3

Went for an early evening walk at Brockholes nature reserve near me last week and the path was full of froglets all coming out of one of the lakes. We really had to look where we were treading! 2
elsiegee40 Posted July 9, 2020 Author Posted July 9, 2020 Male blackbird tries to feed a slow worm to his fledgling! You will have to go to facebook for the video, but I did a screen grab of the video https://www.facebook.com/groups/kentbirding/permalink/3096924627010272/
southhamster Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 Rescued a young Great Tit that had fallen down our woodburner flue (lucky it's summer!) Could be it was trying to escape the sparrowhawk that's taken to hunting for prey round our bird feeder. It's way too fast to get any pictures!
