Here's an idea - could not Edugeek award awards to suppliers, etc based on polls of edugeekers? Award for best IT supplier, best IT support from a company, etc. And, oh yes, an award for the worst as well!

Just an idea considering how powerful the forum is now.

Didn't we discuss this a while back with regard to software?

or am I going completly mental?

.....it's a possibility

We could have a dinner sponsored by one of the big companies with a nice meal and some free booze at a swanky hotel and make it the oscars of the educational ict world.

Rob Brydon or Scott Mills could present the awards.

There's an idea for an award: 'The Heather Mills Wooden Leg Award' for leeching the most funds from an unsuspecting individual/organisation.....

Best Tech Under 21 instead of 18 then you're looking like something I might have a chance at winning lol. I just miss the 18 y/o one by almost two years :(

I don't see the point in dividing the tech award into two age groups, it's quite demeaning to younger techs as it'll be seen as a "junior" award. Simply have a runner up for "best tech".

I'd back a "worst" of each category too, including a bloopers award for person making the largest mistake of the year :)

We did look at the possibility of this for BETT, but I'll be honest and say that it is costly to run and organise, difficult to sort a suitable evening for it when we can also get suppliers and the like along, sponsorship was concentrated on other things ... and I wouldn't have had a chance to win anything so no-one else can either! :-(

Ah ... verily I say unto thee that it is not the length of the post, the diverse language used, the inane references to long forgotten mythology or theology, the depth to which one might explore and expand singular points of previous posts that may have actually been resolved earlier in the thread but only repeated to show that understanding of others and acceptance of differing views ... or the simple act of adding 20 words when simple 'yep' will do ...

It is my yearning to follow in the footsteps, examine the examples or even to suggest a similarity to the sheer magnitude that is the vocal and mental dexterity in discourse that exists in the personages of Gyles Daubeney Brandreth and Paul James Martin.

Nay, I say to you ... the language of the Bard is not dead ... it is alive and well and is resplendent in its suitability to such a noble collective of immense intellects. No more, 'all your base' for me ... I will tarry my tongue with such witticisms that will inspire wonder whilst others babble and blather. No utterances shall pour forth unless they add even a pittance of pith in our ponderance within this community.

Shall I say on my dear friends ... do I go forth now, to gabble and gibber ... or do I ...

erm ... Witch ... why are you coming towards me with a bat? Yes ... I admit you do seem to swing it well, but it is getting a bit close ...

Witch ... you are starting to worry me ...

/me backs out to the door ...

/me runs!

When did Russell Brand get an account here?

Couldn't it start off as an online scheme? As in, the awards are posted on here and maybe an ad in a computer mag with them in? Then from there you can gauge the response, and see if it is worth pursuing for a second year, maybe more grandiose than the year before?

That way, the initial cost would be relatively low, but could be ramped up for future years, as sponsors would be more forthcoming due to a good response in the first year.

Just an idea anyway.
