Popular Post ICTDirect_Dave Posted July 2, 2019 Popular Post Posted July 2, 2019 (edited) Good Morning Edugeek! Today is a marvellous day as I get to officially introduce you all to our newest recruit, Phil Greenhalgh! Phil joined us from our trade & purchasing team a couple of weeks ago and has been busy getting up to speed with how ICT Direct do things. Some of you may have already had the pleasure of speaking with him on the phone or via email, whilst for the rest of you that joy is still a sparkling possibility on the horizon. I've asked @ICTDirect_Phil to write a little about himself so you can get to know him... I was born in Salford and baptised a Man Un*ted fan (an increasingly rare breed these days). I found my way into computing via the C64, though my successes with it were limited. Following 4 days coding I had unwittingly created Bob from Minecraft but didn’t see the potential at that point. So began my pursuit of computer utopia in the form of a large collection of ‘cutting edge’ games cassettes. Many happy hours invested emulating Bruce Lee in ‘The way of the exploding fist’ subsequently fuelled a thirst for knowledge and progress in the emerging world of ‘technology’. After quitting Oasis due to creative differences over the uses of a thesaurus. I quickly realised that a career in IT may offer a little more stability. Electronic engineering was my entry-point, and I followed it with all the roles from ‘Bench Engineer’ to IT consultant enjoying all of the adventures on the magic roundabout along the way. We are in a very privileged position supporting education and I really enjoy the process of doing it. Our children (of which I've one of each make) are the future and having a passion for what we do each day IMO is the only way you can achieve true contentment. Technology needs to stay fun and be accessible to all. So I'm really lucky in being able to help the next generation and beyond progress their dreams. I feel the same about music too so I support a local music charity providing instruments for underprivileged kids. Access to everything for all is my core belief no matter what the background. Like sport and life in general these activities are a great leveller and you can only get better by trying and making mistakes. We like Phil (even if he does support the wrong team), and we think you'll like him too. To help you all get to know him better, we are going to take @bald_pig's suggestion on board and have a little competition in his honour. Below, you'll see a lovely high-res photograph of the man himself (@DJ-1701 your background removing skills will be required). We challenge you to make his EduGeek Profile Picture using said photo & a mixture of your own imagination and Photoshop Skillz! http://www.ict-direct.co.uk/media/edugeek/Phil.jpg In exchange for your efforts we'll award the chosen winner with a brand new 960GB Integral Solid State Drive, a copy of our little book from the EG conference and a selection of whatever left-over BETT show goodies we've got left. The winner will be chosen at our discretion come the end of this month and will be announced in-thread. There are no limits to the number of entries you can make, we'll consider each new submission. However, entrants must work in education (in some capacity) in the UK. Standard rules on time-travel apply. You MAY NOT manipulate the timeline in order to produce a favourable result!
