Paxton Net2 Pro - Windows 10 Edu Compatibility

I've been asked to look into the Net2 Pro software as we are looking to use the Paxton system as part of our lockdown procedure i.e. to lock external doors at once. We only run Windows 10 Education (x64) on our domain and whilst researching I came across this compatibility list: https://www.paxton.co.uk/spotlight.asp?strStage=compatibility_statement showing everything but Education as being compatible. I contacted Paxton and they have confirmed that whilst we would be able to do the server side install, the client version (lite?) wouldn't install on the edu version of Windows 10.

 

I know many of you use Paxton and Net2, does anyone know a way around this? So far the only solution I can come up with is a stand alone workstation running Windows 10 Pro, but having it access server side resources does not sit well with me, added to the fact that we have neither a spare computer nor a space to put it in. I really don't want to have to setup a new OU and GPO structure to manage one device for one piece of software, not to mention not being able to control the Windows feature updates in Pro.

So you've got the client running on the Education version? Did you have to do anything specific to get it working or did it just work? I guess it would just be unsupported if we ran into any issues.

 

Helpfully Paxton have said there are currently no plans to change their stance on Windows 10 Education.

Running Net2 on Server 2016 and the clients on Windows 10 education without a problem.

They have a document detailing the different versions and the support offered.

As long as you have one client that's not Win10 Edu, then whenever you ring up for support, just use that one.

 

They'll not know any different.

Windows 10 Education is basically Windows 10 Enterprise but without ReFS support, so it should be fine.

Nope. (Well, assuming you flip the appropriate GPOs to disable daftness).

Same here (albeit with Net2 Lite).

 

I don't see why they can't support the Education edition since it's 99.999% identical to Enterprise.

We are running it here without issue on Windows 10 LTSB, which I think is also not on the supported list.

 

No problems though.

Btw, if you have Windows 10 Education v1903 (or newer) and use the Sandbox feature, the OS in the sandbox identifies itself as Windows 10 Enterprise. The following thread has a screenshot.

Just to add to the party, been running Paxton Net2 Pro for 3+ years with no issues on Education. Didn't even know it was a limitation.

we use Paxton and still on v5.32818.3674 and the client wont install on 1809 or Server 2019 just get an error on setup... i need to update either to v5.04.6217.0 as this does install but wont talk to older version.... or upgrade to v6

I updated to the latest V6 version the other day to solve the issue with latest Windows 10 release.
