A point worth noting for anyone considering the series S is that it has less ram than the current Xbox one X so won't be able to run current gen games in one X 4k mode.

Kind of disappointing that in some ways a "next gen" machine is actually less potent than the current gen!

I see why they're doing this though. They're targeting based on resolution.

2K for Series S

4K for Series X

The S is more powerful on a number of other levels than the One X. In particular the CPU, and the capabilities of the GPU visually, even if it won't pump to 4K.

The Series X is clearly meant to be the upgrade path for One X owners or those with 4K TVs, and the S for One S owners, 1080p TVs or 1440p monitors.

but the series s does say its NOT a 4k gaming device (can do upscaling and 4k "content") but its a 1080/1440p box so why would it allow 4k mode?

also not doing 4k should mean games take up less space on the drive iirc master cheif collection is a lot smaller on an xbox 1s than a 1x because the 1s dosent have the 4k textures etc installed

I understand that it's a budget model however it still disappoints me that it isn't as capable as an Xbox One X in terms of Memory/Resolution. Maybe most folk won't have the same expectation though !

The way to look at this is

One X is replaced by Series X

One S is replaced by Series S

If you want 4K and One X enhancements buy a Series X

You'll find out at 8am tomorrow morning! :D

Too true! I know a few people after this.

I'm still waiting to hear if my local game shop has managed to get their allocation of PS5 from Sony and I can preorder from them.

I missed out by a few minutes trying to order one from the various online sites!

I heard the "Scalp-bot-5000" (trademark pending) had all the preorders up on ebay by 8:15.

Both pre-order launches have been a bit of a disaster to be honest. Sold out in minutes with as you say Bots, genuine buyers with no way of getting a console.

Next round will be over-prices packages at Game e.t.c.

Well if it doesn't get here by 10pm today as promised, then as soon as it does I'll be cancelling my Prime and Audible subs and taking all my shopping business elsewhere from now on.

So it's really up to Amazon if they want my custom in the future.

Mine has now dispatched and should be with me in the next two hours.

The perks of working from home is being able to take delivery and not rely on Amazon Lockers!

EDIT : Was more like 25 minutes. She's now setup and updating all the X capable games I have.

Thing is, I'll probably just play more MCC on it this evening! :D

Ordered mine from MS and arrived yesterday. Not played too much yet, but transferring games over from my One S was painless (let Instant On do RDR2 overnight)

Any suggestions for a 4k monitor? I'm torn between looking at something now, or waiting until something comes out next year that supports HDMI 2.1...

If you're specifically after a monitor, I'd wait. There aren't any good ones that do 4K, HDR, HDMI 2.1, good response times, good colour accuracy, freesync and high refresh rates...without spending an absolute fortune.

wait till someone else test it. there have been issues with even hdmi 2.1 devices and amps/tvs not working together as they should. lrg c series oled iirc need a firmware update to work properly with rtx 3000 cards some matrantz amps have a dodgy chip so unless you need a new screen (esp as very few monitors are hdmi 2.1) id wait and let someone else test it on their money
