You confirmed nothing, we were speculating at the implementation, you posted the thing that started the discussion and speculation. Isn't that just describing a paging system that has been in windows for the last 30 years? It could well be just a page file, but I hope it is something more than that, they seem to want to eliminate as many unnecessary read/writes as possible.

mavhc Posted June 10, 2019 Posted June 10, 2019 They'll swap the input to hdmi 2.1 so it can accept 8k 120Hz later apparently. The screen can do it, just no inputs yet, but it's upgradable.

But, that said, with the availability of multimedia platforms now at MUCH cheaper prices, this new device needs to make gaming the primary focus, and multimedia stuff a nice to have add-on. I am hoping for the inclusion of a 4k Blu Ray drive again as it was the only (additional) reason I got the Xbox One S, but given the recent removal of the optical drive from the X1 I am not hopeful. Mind you, it would be foolish to exclude so many potential customers on very slow internet connections.

Admittedly that's just streaming but still... if the end result works and its within parameters (ie it works over normal UK broadband and doesn't cost a fortune) who cares. Seriously though, 8K tv you'd need either robot eyes or a HUUUGE room to make it worth while. Still 8 is a bigger number then 4 so yes, of course people will rush out and buy it. - - - Updated - - - exclude so many potential customers on very slow internet connections. I don't thing the premium xbox will be targeting them.

GamesIndustry.biz also revealed last week GSD data that showed the rapid digitisation of AAA game sales in Europe. This must surely be the last generation to have one though? You can resell discs, which seems like 90% of the reason people want them, but I can't see them competing with subscription streaming for long, play the same game on your tablet, tv, phone, at work, at school i tend to buy disks for 2 reasons. 1 special editions almost never come in a version with the stuff (so take breath of the wild i wanted the master sword statue) and a code its always a disk/cart 2 its almost always cheaper to buy a disk version of a game even new i wonder about 8k 120hz tellys being under 1k the 55" 4k im looking at (its a 2019 model qled) is 1k and does 120hz BUT with vrr/freesync its 48-120hz at 1080 and 48-60hz at 4k with quadruple the data at 8k thats going to need a much beefier soc to do it (assuming you want vrr and at those type of refresh rates id imagine you would)

Plus not everyone has the internet bandwidth to download 50gb plus games. Also, Microsoft still probably want to keep brick and mortar game stores on side for as long as possible. The whole 8k thing sounds a bit like a marketing pitch though as I doubt even in a year's time 8k will be anything like commonplace or affordable. Nor is it likely that many games will run natively at that resolution. SSD should make for some big improvements though as loading times have been getting a bit ridiculous in some games this current generation. Excited to see what they bring out in 2020. Hopefully they finally announce VR support as well. I'd love to play Forza Motorsport/Horizon in VR. Edited June 11, 2019 by flyinghaggis

Localtechie Posted June 13, 2019 Posted June 13, 2019 I will be clinging onto the disk drive for as long as possible as I rent the vast majority of my games and return them when done. I play more games and try more out with the bonus that I don't have the hassle of re selling for people to not pay on ebay, or going digital and spending £30+ minimum which is often 60 a game when I may not even enjoy it (looking at your Rage 2!) I do have Xbox Ultimate which comes with game pass though as I upgraded my gold subs and can see the value but again will dip in and out when it expires. Do buy the odd digital game but only when on a heavy sale or a game that will take me months to complete - AC Odyssey springs to mind.

That isn't nearly so big as I'd imagined.
