Tablets and Office 365

Hi all,

 

We are a Windows network, Office 365 school. We have 2 lots of iPads which are used by all the students, but Office 365 is very flaky. I have been asked to get some more tablets, however, I want to investigate something other than iPads, has anybody got any recommendations? I'm looking for something that would work well with office 365 obviously. how do you do it?

We have problems with Safari being garbage and not working well with O365, is that what you mean?

 

The obvious alternative to an iPad is a surface GO or a Pro if you want to stretch the budget

Surface Go would be best or you could move to a Winbook the Lenovo 100e for example, would you like me to send a quote

Are you using the office apps on iOS ....or just a browser. The apps seem ok for me. And you don’t have to use safari...chrome and edge work on iOS...

We use the office apps, but this means users having to log in and out of the office app (which they don't always remember to do).For those using the Surface GO. I assume you use it as you would any normal windows device connected to your domain? The problem we would have is that we use roaming profiles, with only 64GB of memory this would soon fill up with user profiles.

 

I might look at a quote at a later date.

i dont think you can domain join surface gos (at least out of the box) as they run in s mode (so the modern equivalent of rt it runs apps not exes) and only azure domain joins. you can take them out of s mode i believe though

Can you setup shared iPads & force the kids to sign in to the iPad when they need to? Believe you can set keys for office etc so they sign in to the apps automatically but don't quote me on this...

Sted, it looks like you can upgrade to windows 10 Pro, which might be handy.

you can but to some degree thats not the point of an s mode device

But I don't really want an s mode device as such. I'm after a portable device that user's can share and use office 365 on without too much hassle.

Buy the education version of the Go and it has full (cant remember which version!) Windows on it, not S mode. Office installs and works fine, in fact, everything we have needed has installed

Are you using the 64gb or 128gb. It appears RM are selling the go with 10 Pro

S mode is just that - a mode - and can be switched over. It’s not a separate OS any more. I’ve done it on a Surface Go (which I then switched to Edu for licensing).
