Hi all, I am looking at 1:1 devices for students and wondered what setups people had. We are an Office 365 school but I have been asked to look at Chromebooks. With this in mind I have the following questions: 1. Does anybody use Chromebooks but with Office 365 (both online and the Android App), if so how well does it work? 2. Does anybody use a windows netbook instead and if so what spec do you use and the rough cost, are the netbooks you use suitable? 3. Did anybody just bin off Office 365 in favour of Google, if so, how easy was the migration of Onedrive files etc? Thanks Nick

But I don't really want an s mode device as such. I'm after a portable device that user's can share and use office 365 on without too much hassle.

We use the office apps, but this means users having to log in and out of the office app (which they don't always remember to do).For those using the Surface GO. I assume you use it as you would any normal windows device connected to your domain? The problem we would have is that we use roaming profiles, with only 64GB of memory this would soon fill up with user profiles. I might look at a quote at a later date.

Hi all, We are a Windows network, Office 365 school. We have 2 lots of iPads which are used by all the students, but Office 365 is very flaky. I have been asked to get some more tablets, however, I want to investigate something other than iPads, has anybody got any recommendations? I'm looking for something that would work well with office 365 obviously. how do you do it? Ta

Hi Steve, Yes a call is open and it's been open since early March. Although your guys are trying to work through it there is no resolution as yet. If it is affecting us I wanted to know if it is affecting anybody else, as I can't see a reason why it wouldn't be. As far as I can see, and I believe your guys have checked as well, there is nothing set up to allow Whatsapp through, but messages are still getting through! It appears that there are a lot of different IP addresses being used by them. Cheers N

Hi all, Anybody else having issues blocking Whatsapp? We are with SWGFL and use their filtering, however, Whatsapp is getting through the filter. Whatsapp keep using different IP address ranges and are constantly being added to. Anyone else? Cheers N

Hi David, Yes, I've stopped profile reports showing at the moment. The problem we have is that the year group reports overlap, so a year 11 report could be made available whilst year 10 are still in draft. So even your embargo may not work for us. N

Hi all, We have recently implemented Edulink One and it is great!, however, we have an issue and wondered if anybody has come across the same problem and how they countered it. We use SIMS and reports are created through 2 different routes, the first is individual reports, whilst the second are the yearly report via "Student profile". Whilst the latter reports are not generated they do not pull through to Edulink Documents, however in order for them to be checked and corrected by someone else, they HAVE to be generated, this means the draft report is published (VERY undesirable). Has anybody come aross this issue themselves and how did you get around it? Regards N

No, you're not missing anything. For our purposes, we use OWA, so with TLS and OWA as far as we are concerned emails will be encrypted all the way at our end. On the receiving end, we'll probably have to check how they are accessing their emails, I'm working through how this is all working at the moment.

Sorry, I didn't make clear, DJ. I believe their problem is that, if an email is encrypted it could potentially be hiding a virus or other nasty, we've been denied by the MOD also along the same lines in the last couple of weeks, so in that instance resorted to snail mail. Cheers

Hi DJ, I don't intend for staff to check whether TLS is enabled on recipient's addresses I would still expect them to try to encrypt the email using Office 365 encryption. However for our local councils with whom we are in regular contact who are refusing to accept our encryption, if they pass the test, I can let people know they can send the email. If an external sender is sending a totally un-encrypted email without checking, the onus is on them, not us and so I'm not going to worry about that (I can add something in our disclaimer at the bottom of our email placing the liability on them). if we do receive a reply to an email we've sent, I can check whether it's encrypted and if not, I can let them know that they have been 'naughty'!

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate the wording of GDPR, so let me change "sufficient for GDPR" to "would you be comfortable relying on TLS 1.2 for encryption of personal data being sent to governmental organisations." I personally, at the moment, can't see an issue if we're both using TLS, as it would be encrypted end-to-end, but wanted to see if there's anything obvious I've missed, or not considered, as this is something that is affecting a of people as it is referred to in another couple of threads. Hi all, Thoughts please? We use Office 365, and I set up email encryption for if the subject contains the word encrypt/confidential/encryption, so far so good. Now, as others have pointed out, many Governmental organisations are not allowing password protected encrypted emails. By default Office 365 uses TLS 1.2, therefore encrypting emails by default between other organisations that also use TLS. Using the following website: https://www.checktls.com/TestReceiver, we can check whether a potential recipient of an email is using TLS and therefore emails are encrypted by default end to end. My question, do people think this is sufficient for GDPR purposes? Cheers Nick

Hi all, One of our SLT has asked me to look at Esafe monitoring. Before I go too far into it, I want to get a handle on cost. I've looked on their website for a sales number but can't find one, instead it's "fill out this form and well contact you", so I'm hazarding a guess they go for the hard sell (their blurb suggests that) and I want to avoid that. Is anybody using them? if so, any good? roughly how much is it (I'm aware it's per student). Thank you Nick
