  1. Love to hear from any secondary state or independent or prep schools who only use Chromebooks. What are the plus and minus please. Only ever used M365 and teams etc PCs/laptops for kids and staff and tried surface gos
  2. I have just had the above put in and new server with ssd for hot data. The log in times Seem slow. All ssd hardware, yes over wireless but all ac. 1 on its own takes 1 min to log on. Try 15 and hopeless. How long do your log ins take? Default profile is 100mb On machines but when pupil logs in creates a 300mb profile. All of files etc redirected. I am stuck as to why it is so slow. I have been told the 300mb profile size is not the issue 🤷🏻♂️ Really appreciate any ideas or feedback.
  3. Sure, which is why I am trying to eliminate if it is size of profile. Do you think 300 is big? Sorry for my ignorance. One computer, takes 1 minute. Put 20 in and ages. Need to time it tomorrow. On old server all on in 30 seconds. All ssd decent new computers running ac on 5Ghz
  4. The default user on the machine is 100mb The local admin is 4mb The pupil log on is 300mb - domain How does that seem?
  5. Local default profile? Thanks for your help
  6. Thanks will look, but this was a 3rd party paid to do it all
  7. This is where my technical understanding struggles. If I log onto a laptop as a kid. The explorer file size of the user is approx 300mb, if I look in system properties it says the same size 300mb. If I do a properties of all users folder it says 12Gb. My understanding is redirection stops these large files. Over wireless we get about 200mbs. So the maths does not add up, unless I have miss understood things. Would you say that was normal? Thanks for replying
  8. Thanks, I looked on the local machines and app data is there and 438Mb. We are a laptop school with good AC wireless but that seems a lot to me. Kids use lots of different laptops, so the possibility of them getting the same one with their profile downloaded is small. Hence the slow log on. If they use same machine faster. Do you redirect app data or does that not go onto workstations? - - - Updated - - - Thanks, I looked on the local machines and app data is there and 438Mb. 9. their files, pictures and all that, Google stuff, office templates redirected and profile, but from my understanding it copies profile minus the redirected stuff. Still very new so trying to work it out. Seems one drive in the profile is 150 mb. I have asked them. I was just interested to know what size other schools have as nothing to compare it to.
  10. Not sure if this is correct forum sub section. We have just had a third party 2019 win10 1909 and sytem All the user files are redirected to the server, so in theory should not be large profiles. The log on time to laptops even with good specs, new and ssd seems slow. I looked at the profile size and after first log in it is about 300 mb they all say local in system properties That seems large to me, especially with redirection What size are your pupil profiles please? Any help appreciated
  11. Thanks, was that as that with a password to unlock or auto un-lock please. That is the sort of concern I have for staff ones.
  12. Ours are what they use each day for their computer as no workstation in classes
  13. Thanks, I am more looking to make sure we have followed GDPR. I am sure there is a way to get into things with the right knowledge. However, I want to make sure now we have new server and system that it is following gdpr on removable staff latops
  14. So you would not encrypt the drive with Bit locker? Is there any where I can show from Microsoft to Head about one drive encrypting what it caches from cloud please? Thanks, really helpful
  15. On a different note. We have about 6 staff laptops. All there files and shared areas are in one drive / sharepoint. However, they download to machine as they use them. Also e-mail is on them viz 365 but outlook saves locally too as far as I understand. Do people encrypt staff laptops. They take them home etc to do school work. GDPR says technoligival measure to secure. In my opinion a user name and password not same. My laptop is Bitlocked. Does doing this affect one drive or connecting to server etc. Any help massively appreciated.
  16. Are am having a new server installed. All workstations need to be re-imaged. We are running 1903. Is 1909 something people would upgrade to or should I ask to stay on 1903?
  17. Thanks Pete, so how did you sort that please? I am in a primary too?
  18. Really, I thought A1 was just cloud based. Excuse my ignorance, how do I do that please?
  19. Does the A3 still allow kids to put office M365 onto their home machines please?
  20. Currently we have 8 surface gos and various laptops The 2 in 1 touch screens are very good for teaching little ones. What are others using please? I like Gos but they are expensive once keyboard and a reasonable spec is chosen. I have a Lenovo 300e 2nd gen on test I have seen Acer are launching their B3 spinmate Also the Surface 2 Anyone had good experience with others. We are tight budget wise, so sadly, 400 each is limit Any help really appreciated
  21. Anyone using this as a back up solution? Not sure if that is what it is meant for but is very cheap. Any help appreciated
  22. If you are, how have you found it. Is it easy to use etc please?
  23. Interesting article here https://schoolsict.co.uk/what-we-do/office-365/security-and-compliance/office-365-is-my-data-safe
  24. Yes, like the song money too tight to mention. Would love SSD's. Upgraded all laptops to them and they fly.
