Arthur Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 (edited) Freddie Flintoff and Paddy McGuiness join Chris Harris in a brand new series of Top Gear. Edited May 28, 2019 by Arthur
CHiLL Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 I'm note sure how I feel about it. An extended trailer:
ICTDirect_Dave Posted May 28, 2019 Posted May 28, 2019 I immediately like this more than the last series. The chemistry already looks much better. I hope they pull it off!
MrMat Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 My initial reaction upon hearing the news was a resounding 'Meh'. But after seeing the trailers and hearing the initial reaction (see below), I'm actually quite optimistic. I'm glad they kept Harris as i've been a fan of him for years and Flintoff and McGuinnes are amusing enough plus they have the presenting chops to carry a show so hopefully it all comes together! https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2019/may/23/top-gears-paddy-mcguinness-andrew-flintoff-chris-harris
Danp Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 For the first time in a while, I'm looking forward to Top Gear. I really rate Harris, enjoyed his stuff on YouTube for years, he stopped and chatted with me at Silverstone a few years ago, nice chap
MrMat Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 Also, Flintoffs fearlessness is well known. It easily surpases his levels of talent, which should keep things entertaining https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QWwNzFhbVQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QWwNzFhbVQ
hardtailstar Posted June 8, 2019 Posted June 8, 2019 I didn't watch the last series at all. I just couldn't get into it. Looks like this trio could be around for some time. Hopefully it's good!

Jawloms Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Yup, I'll certainly keep watching it. Not quite the necessary chemistry between them, but I think it stands a chance of getting there. Still think they should have tried to get Suzy Perry, Vicki Butler-Henderson and Jodie Kidd.
mikeprice Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Watched it last night (recorded) and it was OK - not properly natural but for a first episode I thought it was pretty good will stick around and see where it goes
jthompson Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Can't say Paddy McGuinness doesn't grate on me, but I'd rather suffer him than Rory 'Bland' Reid.
Simcfc73 Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 Absolutely brilliant, laughed out loud loads of times. Not sure it works with the dreamy BS about beautiful countries in a Bolton accent but can live with it.
Danp Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Watched it last night (daughter wanted to see it too), I really liked it, think it's working well, I liked that they kept bits in that may have been removed previously (the bit with Chris saying he's the clever one but missed his line)
timbo343 Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I watched it last night too and not watched TG since Clarkson, May, Hammond as i wasnt to sure about the american presenters (and Chris Evans) but they all seemed to "gel" with each other. Too much of Paddy annoys me though (i seem to think he is a the Clarkson of the group) can only bear so muchof him but Freddie and Chris make up for it.
hardtailstar Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Too much of Paddy annoys me though (i seem to think he is a the Clarkson of the group) can only bear so muchof him but Freddie and Chris make up for it. He doesn't annoy me but I know where you are coming from. I also agree that he probably will take on that role with Freddie as James and Chris as Richard. Hopefully they will settle down and all will be well.
mikeprice Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Yeah - I think it needs to be given time to settle down a bit - but it was a good start
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 I watched it last night and genuinely liked it. Paddy grates on me a bit, but he's being genuine which I appreciated. Freddie has the potential to be excellent. He was however, a bit 'too Preston' at times. By which I mean it was like watching some of the more boisterous lads out around here on a saturday night. I reckon he'll settle into the role nicely though.
timbo343 Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 (edited) Fell asleep waching this episode though sequal episodes are usualy worse than the first Edited June 23, 2019 by timbo343
hardtailstar Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Fell asleep waching this episode though sequal episodes are usualy worse than the firstI was laughing all the way through. Much better than the first!
ICTDirect_Dave Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I enjoyed this one. There were several moments where I genuinely couldn't keep a big laugh in, I nearly woke the kids on one occasion! 1
Theblacksheep Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I'm no fan of Paddy, but it works, Chris is well-balanced well with those two and I laughed more than old Top Gear. I got annoyed at the idiocy at complaining about the range of 'electric cars' by using a 20kwh 8 year old leaf. The model 3 bit was done well.
foofighterjim Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I got annoyed at the idiocy at complaining about the range of 'electric cars' by using a 20kwh 8 year old leaf. The model 3 bit was done well. This part actually made me think though; there will be no market for 2nd had electric cars (with the current generation) if the batteries only give a useable range for 5 years or so, your only realistic option would be to trade in or more expense (and carbon footprint) of new batteries. Who really can afford to buy a new expensive car with no return at the end? Not me or anyone I know that's for sure.
