Nausing Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 We need to license over 100 devices used in various classroom and labs. Adobe now charge £278 per device per year for device licenses. Does anyone know of a scheme or method to reduce this cost? Thanks

I prefer device license as it prevents having to create student Adobe ID accounts and dealing with the hassle of password resets and students having to log into their account after looking into the device. Device license required minimum 25 order.

For CC 2019 you only have the option of Shared Device Licenses (SDL) or Named User Licenses (NUL). Both require users to login to the apps. Cw2k Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 (edited) Check with Chest if you qualify to use their Adobe ETLA agreement as a sixth form: https://www.chest.ac.uk/agreements/adobe-etla/ Around £45 per staff FTE per year for SDL which will cover all your devices, also includes the cloud services. Joining is open for a short period each year, should be very soon (should be open by end of May) Their adobe student etla homeuse option is available to sixth forms, not sure about adobe elta but worth checking. Users will be required to login to use the software and will each need their own log in, that can be managed through AD. Looking at the adobe website is rubbish. I also thought it was going to cost me around £400 per device initially

mdrabble Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 From what I understand the shared device (CC 2018) will no longer be available next year so would need to move to the per user model (CC 2019) Licences cost less but you would need more licences which is a pain especially when it comes down to knowing how many you may or may not need.
Cw2k Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Named User License remains the same. The old style device (site) license ends with CC 2018. Shared Device License (SDL) is the new replacement for it in CC 2019. Benefit of SDL is that users can log in to any adobe account (personal, free, institution) on a device with SDL and it does not break the licensing of the applications like it did pre CC 2019. Any of those accounts get the full functionality of whatever the institutions agreement includes (cloud services etc) when logged into an SDL device.

GiggleKitteh Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Shared device licence is based on staff FTE but then covers all staff and students on your machines (and staff on their own machines). It also overrides the named user limit on the number of machines the desktop parts can be used on. Would strongly recommend seeing if you are eligible for Chest. I'm at a university so we use this route.

johnlevis Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Adobe are moving away from SDL, you can still buy them but next year you will have to go to user based, minimum 500 (but a lot cheaper per licence). Note that SDL won't give you Adobe 2019 - you need user based licences for that and if you move over next year it will require a complete reinstall. Happy to have a chat if you like.
