Register .sch.uk domain

My academy is getting a new school built. I've been going around the houses with nominet. How do i request the official domain name to be setup for us? e.g. SchoolName.Region.sch.uk

Thanks for the quick reply. This is my issue I think I don't have the ID number yet. Apparently we wont get these until we pass the Ofsted pre-opening inspection.

We moved to a co.uk a long time ago, much better in my opinion.

We still use a .sch.uk because some suppliers will automatically extend credit to .sch.uk addresses but won't to .co.uk

 

You need your school ID to make it happen. It resulted in a lot of lastminute.com registering and config when we renamed at my last place.

That's a good point.

 

Either Way, I'd suggest getting the .co.uk registered anyway for the sake of £10 a year.

I'd also recommend getting a "plain" domain (.co.uk or .org or whatever) as the .sch.uk ones end up three miles long. Good to have, but I wouldn't use it solely, and you can use the regular domain in the meantime.

 

And yes, you'll need your DfE number to register a .sch.uk. As you say, once you're through the pre-opening approval you'll get all of that.

True, when you pick your name make it short, esp if your LA name is long. I had 2 and 3 letter school names .notts.sch.uk.

 

At least no one's going to steal your school domain, and it won't expire, unlike commercial options.
