Teachers are very pro Apple and have now invested in Apple throughout. - They do have to use RDS for SIMS.... so Windows is around but very much in the background. Just trying to find a happy medium, and get them over the annoyances.

Thanks for the response. Believe they have Mosyle at the moment but only managing the iPads, not the Macs. Will no doubt pose more questions after my visit :-)

Hi, I just wondered if anyone has any experience of a predominately Mac-based school environment running on Windows-based servers? I am due on site this week to investigate solutions to overcome their main problems which are: AD Password expiation (not able to change passwords have to go to a Windows PC) Easy Access for Pupils to access their areas (Home drives) File corruption when sharing to public areas and accessing files on a different Mac. The school are already embracing Office 365 so the long-term goal if possible would be to use SharePoint for file collaboration and perhaps JumpCloud Directory Platform as a directory service due to issues with Mac OS and Azure AD and the cumbersome approach I think it will take. I really welcome feedback from anyone who has Mac's properly co-existing in a windows domain, with pupils logging on with themselves as they would on Windows and having appropriate drive maps, permissions etc. along with teaching staff also with the ability to change their directory passwords.

Thanks for the quick reply. This is my issue I think I don't have the ID number yet. Apparently we wont get these until we pass the Ofsted pre-opening inspection.

My academy is getting a new school built. I've been going around the houses with nominet. How do i request the official domain name to be setup for us? e.g. SchoolName.Region.sch.uk Thanks! Mike

We have a school looking to have a pop up on the teachers computers which will display a bulletin board / notice board. With frequently used URL's, Links to policy documents and an area where notices can be displayed managed by the admin office. Ideally I don't want to create a new intranet and hoping there is a magical bit of software out there that can do this and its easy to manage and can be added to staff's startup folder to ensure they get the latest messages when logging on. Does anybody have any ideas how best to achieve it...? Thanks

Thanks for your reply Synack We either dont use some of those features or have other software in place ready to take over. A lot of the desktop clients need replacing, unfortunately we dont have a magic wand / budget / nuclear bomb... But may create new OU's for computer accounts and when we add new computers replicate the control we get from CC4 with new GPO's, would you imagine this to be achievable or just a complete nightmare to have co-existence for 1-2 years...?

Has anyone got any experience of remove CC4 from the network? We've had an upgrade of cc3 to cc4 which has left lots of AD issues, and the network is v slow and problematic. We are very confident with AD and have Microsoft certified technicians and have decided to move away from CC4 and manage the network purely with Microsoft resources. Can anyone identify functionality we would lose or problems we may come across? many thanks for any advice...
