Renfield-64 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Can anyone recommend a free 3D design program which can be used by Year 5/Year 6 children? We started using BlockCAD but it is so buggy that we have had to stop using it. Thanks.
LeMarchand Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Browser based Sketchup? https://www.sketchup.com/plans-and-pricing/sketchup-free 1
Renfield-64 Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 We did have a look at sketchup but the free version doesn't let you save documents (apart from on google drive).
Renfield-64 Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 Just tried TinkerCad but again it doesn't let you save.
PrimaryNetMan Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Just tried TinkerCad but again it doesn't let you save. When you sign up all your projects are saved in your account. Can SSO with G Suite or O365. Projects an be downloaded as STL, OBJ or SVG for use on 3D printers / laser cutters.
steveg Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 We use the last free off-line version of sketchup. Sketchup make 2017 I think it is.
Renfield-64 Posted May 20, 2019 Author Posted May 20, 2019 The problem with this is that every kid would have to have their own account which isn't practical.
synaesthesia Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 As above, use older version of sketchup. No accounts needed.
ass17 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 FreeCAD is as it suggests but might be too much for younger pupils. https://www.freecadweb.org
Knil92 Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Browser based Sketchup? https://www.sketchup.com/plans-and-pricing/sketchup-free Literally had no idea that even existed, thanks for sharing
steveg Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 They dropped 32 bit support in the 2017 version and that is the only free one available now. If you aren't on 64 bit you may be out of luck with sketchup.
